Hey guys, I saw this dude on live aquaria and I was wondering, what is the difference in him and the common yellow tank? The look the same. Thanks

they say its a scopas tang which usually looks more brown but the one they advertise is a rare morph of a scopas tang making it look bright yellow almost identical as a regular yellow tang..

they are different species, and one is simply an unusual, but natural color morph. Being different species, they will have different "features".

The first dead giveaway is the scopas's brown eye, take a look. All scopas have this color eye and the eye of a yellow tang has yellow in it. If you could see both the yellow tang and the yellow variant scopas up close you would see lots of differences, mainly in the small spots that cover the body of the scopas and the lack of any spots on the yellow.

yes kahuna tuna is correct, the difference you would notice in person believe it or not is the spots. They actually are quite visible in person.

Ditto. These are very cool fish and have been coming in with more frequency lately. From tiny 1.75" to 4-5". Very hardy fish as well.

and the fin shape, the scopas var. seem to have a flatter rear edge to their dorsal fin, where as normal yellows have more curvy fins, my normal scopas look like a triangle when his fins are up!

another difference between them is the white "dash" on the middle section of the body.. Scopas tangs don't have this

To me they look way to much like yellow tangs for that price. I would take a yellow tang which is cheaper any day over that color mourph because of the price.

Beautiful, Copps!

satrajit, see how the fish Copps posted has spots all over? And the eye is brownish? As opposed to a flavescens..
