Zeovit - System

ok good, so now you can take back your earlier comments about zeovit not working :)

and honestly, I have followed your tank, you are telling me that having to siphon the bare bottom and scraping the coraline and ... takes less time than adding a couple of drops to a tank ? again, hard to believe any of it. are you saying your tank [old tank] was maintenance free ? how much water changes did you do ?

I never said that zeovit didn´t work, just said I think is not necessary and you can achieve success without them

I really don´t remember how much water I was changing, but was not more than 30% monthly

Unfortunately there is no marine aquarium in the world that is maintenance free :lmao:

This was my first SPS reef, a couple of years ago, just doing the basic....WC, calcium reactor, good skimmer, flow , GFO and light

Check this out and his corals are not that great

for example Xtra makes colors darker, B-balance makes them lighter ...[/QUOTE]

I'm not a zeo user, but doesn't the Zeospur lighten up the coral, not the B-balance? My understanding is that B-balance replaces minerals and additives removed by skimming. Zeospur actually can lighten coral to a point that if you overdose it, the coral will lack so much zooanthellae that it won't get enough energy through photosynthesis and eventually die (strong stuff).

you are correct on all accounts :)

B-balance does lighten corals, as your correctly mentioned, by replacing certain elements, it has a special effect on reds and oranges. it also makes Xenia grow ! [could be good or bad lol ]

Zeospure2 as you mentioned makes corals shed their zoox algae, which makes them look lighter / skeleton color comes out more, and also helps coral grow faster [okay this part is just my observation i can be wrong] and overdose can indeed kill the corals.

hope that cleared it up :)

To put it simply Zeo works. Run the system and your tank will be ULNS, your basically trading things like refuges, gfo reactors, carbon dosing, bio pellets, uv, ozone, etc for the zeo system. Just a zeo reactor and a bag of carbon.

I think the real value of Zeo is the everyday dosing makes you interact with your tank daily and can lead to good husbandry practices. You end up with a "feel" for your tank, if mg is low my green cap starts graying, if my alk is off because my salifer kit failed yet again I notice a bit of STN from the base, etc...

While I agree that Zeo does work (I've seen lots of nice Zeo tanks), I would disagree that the everyday maintenance schedule is an added value :-) I would prefer not to have to do something every single day. This is the reason why a lot of people get out of the hobby. That is, they find that they are having to do too much. Granted, the definition for what's "too much" is subjective and will greatly vary from person to person. One person might think that doing a water change once a week is too much while someone else might say doing a water change once a month is too much. Anyway, we are all different and have different lives and schedules. I for one can not have a tank that would require my attention every single day. If that makes me lazy, so be it. I'm a lazy reefer, there, I admit it :-)

if you are not going to be looking at your tank and enjoying it daily then whats the point of it ?

you will never know what is going on with your tank if you do not have time to look at it ! it doesnt make you a lazy person, not at all, but it could be that you arent that interested to look at it daily to see how your animals are doing ?

like I mean, I do not have a dog, cause I can not walk them ... I have enough troubles walking myself :) I dont think that makes me lazy, Im just not a person that can walk dogs .. not a dog person. ..

ppl who get out of hobby due to the work it requires, just wanted a nice water feature in their house, not a reef tank :) just like the dog situation above. Id like to have a dog to play iwth on sunny days on beach, but that's it, I just want a dog for 1 day a year :) so I dont own a dog.

The point is I want to have a nice reef tank in my living room :-)

So if I'm busy today, or tomorrow or the next day and I don't have time to gaze into my tank on those days does that mean I shouldn't bother having a reef tank?

not at all :)

in that case you will need a maintenance crew :) they are available at your local shops.

same way that if I really wanted a dog, but didnt want to walk it, Id have to get a dog walker :)

The other option is to set up a tank that doesn't require that level of maintenance. Then I wouldn't need the maintenance crew. :-)

Yes, if I really wanted a dog and didn't want to walk the dog I would have to find another way to make sure the dog was walked or that the dog didn't need to be walked. I could get someone to walk it for me or I could set my treadmill on a timer and train the dog to walk itself on the treadmill.

good luck with the maintenance free SPS tank :)

never seen dogs walking themselves. same way I have never seen a nice SPS tank that is maintenance free and the reefer has no need to even look at it to see if things are alive, if light is still hanging above the tank, if the skimmer is full and so on :)
think of NONE ZEOVIT tanks .... you still need to check to make sure skimmer is good, dosing is done, corals are looking good, test for parameters make sure power heads and lighting are working and so on.

I am not suggesting maintenance free. I know very well that there is no such thing. I am merely suggesting lower maintenance as compared to Zeovit :-)

okay so now you have time to look at the tank daily ?

I dose on average 1 product a day[besides zeostart3 which is automated], how long do you think that takes me to dose a couple of drops of it while viewing my tank and feeding my fish ?

:)
