I recently started Zeovite. I admit I did not read the Zeovite manual. I do see that they do not recommend running a UV. I am running a UV at present time. Do you think this is an issue?

Yup. As Fishpets stated, the UV sterilizer kills off the bacteria in your system. You are going to need to remove it for Zeo to work properly.I recently started Zeovite. We need pics!!!:dance:That's it, I'm going full ZEO..........................hey wait I'm already a ZEO reefer for a year.
Thanks, Pete! I enjoy giving back to the community that has helped me many times over the years. Please let me know if you have any questions.James,
I'm a month and a half into my ZEO conversion. I find your input extremely interesting / insightful. Thanks for taking the time to provide this.

Thanks Fishypets. Your advice is spot on!Yes it is, you are killing the bacteria which defeats the purpose of ZEOvit.
What would you adjust if theres a light brown film on glass and some corals are light brown
Should I lower flow or increase..green corals are doin great..

Hi Justin, I am guessing your aggressive use of GFO is causing your issues. It sounds like even with your aggressive use of GFO, your phosphate is only slowly coming down. I would expect the phosphate to be ripped out of your water with the amount of GFO you are using. This would indicate an unhealthy continuous supply of phosphate in your water column. Starving your corals is a sure way to cause tissue recession at the base of your corals. I know this from personal experience. I'm feeling a little uneasy about your changing the zeo media. Something is definitely off in your water. You need to find the source of your phosphate and then focus on slowly bringing your nutrients down. Do you have any persistent algae on your rocks?AFter a round or two of GFO, my PO4 tested at 0.21 last night, (gfo a few days old). So its coming down ever so slowly, I am going to try another water change to see what happens. I am using Reef crystals, I hope this isnt bad, but the alk really doesn't seem to increase during a water change. Also a my Sps are bad, my garf has been slowly STN from the base, along with another frag. Any ideas how I can make them more happy?
50gal system, now at 300ml of stones at 200 l/h (cant go any lower until I build a valve to throttle back the reactor), (i need to do my first change, should I replace only 90%?), been doing start at 0.5 ml/ day. I have almost stopped feeding the tank unitl the nutrients are more manageable.
How do your LPS look? A 20% water change can help. Please keep feeding your tank as well. Can you tell me how quickly the base of your SPS is receding? Do you have any oyster feast?I don't have any algae, a little stringy stuff on the rocks. I only run 5 tbsp of gfo per round, so I'm not sure it's stripping it that fast. I guess stay the course for now?
My Deepwater acro and I forget the name of the other ..everything is coming back to normal since I decrease the glow a couple of weeks a go but just a few is light and one is brown so I think it just needs time..Hi Cugly, I would decrease the flow to increase your phosphate and nitrate slightly. If you keep those parameters 0.00 for to long, you can begin to see tissue recession at the base and very pale coloration. Don't be afraid to feed your tank other non-zeo food sources. What type of SPS coral looks light brown and what type of light is it receiving?
James
I agree. Keep things stable and the color will improve over time.My Deepwater acro and I forget the name of the other ..everything is coming back to normal since I decrease the glow a couple of weeks a go but just a few is light and one is brown so I think it just needs time..
