Zeovit users - show us your results

When this thread takes a turn for the worse, I will close it. So far, it has not. We have several posts with the info the original poster requested, and several posts where differing opinions were offered. No one has been insulted and some folks seem to need a bit tougher skin to stomach a public forum. I would suggest that the discussion continue... :)

Since I am the original poster, and Skipper the moderator has chosen not to abide my request to close the thread, I want to make the original intent clear to everyone. (This includes posters, editors, moderators, etc ... )

This thread was started, and only exists, to showcase the success of growth or failure and demise of tanks/corals using the Zeovit method, using photo/pics for illustration. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IMAGES TO POST, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT. The purpose was to present before and after images.

The original thread does not ask for your opinion, nor does it need to be expressed with any regard other than the Zeovit method.

I hope I have cleared any confusion with regard to this thread, or its continued intent.

Thanks Skipper -
Is it in-appropriate to ask that we stick to the the thread title? I see other thread locked quite often for wandering off topic, and becoming a "grenade lobbing".. I am just not interested in that.

Thanks

I don't see any "grenade lobbing" in this thread. Surely there have been some posts that have been off topic but the tone has gone where it has as a result of the unprovoked overly confrontational manner in which you've responded.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IMAGES TO POST, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT. The purpose was to present before and after images.

I hope I have cleared any confusion with regard to this thread, or its continued intent.

So if this thread had turned into a pictorial display of Zeovit tanks and the predictable onslaught of mindless "nice tank" "+1" "+2" "+1000" posts ensued would those violate your thread posting of rules quoted above?

Again, accept that this is a public forum and there's a good possibility that you're going to receive replies you don't like. As long as they don't violate the terms of use as outlined by RC I don't see an issue.

I actually opened this thread to see some pics of some nice Zeovit tanks only to see it derailed by confrontational and inflammatory replies but not by those people being accused of derailing thread, but by yourself and teesquare.

I saw it Hun. I have been watching you elsewhere and love your tank. It is a true description of a zeo grown aquarium. One of my favorites. Keep up the good work man! The polyp extension is just wonderful! Thanks for posting.

Tsquare, calm down buddy. I like that you started this thread and have been following it from the beginning. but you seem to be out to sabotage it for some reason. Let the people post what they have in pictures and what's on there minds. This is not a tank journal or personal thread when you asked others to post in it and post there pictures. It now belongs to them and I.
I am curious though if you are using probiotics in your tank. I have not seen your tank yet but this all started in the neo-zeo thread and you seem to want to learn more about these methods. What are you looking for? If you need some help please PM me and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I have some before and after shots of the corals close up I will post later in the day.
I was hoping more neo-zeo users were going to post some pictures also. I really like following that thread and am curious how that method is working out. Come on you neo-heads! show us what you got! :D

Thanks I appreciate your interest and insight.

My apologies TO ALL that feel I have been too strict in trying to keep this thread on topic. It is my fault for thinking we could actually have a discussion on the subject matter of thread:lol: - I just think that forum threads have a TITLE on each thread to represent the subject matter discussed therein....I really do not understand why those that have opposing views, or a desire to argue about other things can't seem to find a way to start their own thread. SO...- Please can we JUST discuss the ULN systems and choices that are available????
(If you want to rant, rail against, or otherwise complain - try the Lounge- great place for it! I am all for the "freedom of expression"...but really guys - can we have a LITTLE respect for the forum, and how it is structured to organize our topics? That is all I am asking - please.....:fun4:)

I am interested in the Zeovit approach, because it is not available anywhere near me, but I believe it is much like the Brightwell Neo-Zeo method. Currently I am using the BRS 2 part, but I have just started the Neo-Zeo reactor, going into week 3 of the dosing only MB7, so - I can't really say that I have a ULN tank to show pics of yet. But I suppose I could take some pics for the "before" aspect...?
And- I know rcorbitt started his perhaps a week or 2 before me.....So we arenew to this.
Also - as stated in the begining posts ( darn that reading stuff, huh?:fun2:)
We are interested in HOW you use which-ever system you chose, and perhaps what you would do differently.

So, can we all extinguish the matches before lighting up a full-fledged flame war...pleae? What ELSE can I say to try and stay on point here guys?

Hopefully I will be able to add some info as my tank progresses. I started a 180 in january, full zeo. I started it w/marco rocks and a bit of live rock to seed it, then followed the 14 day cycle. The tank is still young, but coming along. First corals will likely be added in another 6 weeks or so.

Here is a shot of my old tank... I ran Zeovit from the start so I can't do a side by side comparison of "before" and "after". This was at its prime a couple years back...I ended up going through a full tank crash last year and I am re-building my new system...again with Zeovit from the start. I primarily use Zeovit as a macro-algae control...good color on my acros is really a secondary concern when it comes to Zeo. Of course I love the popping colors but it is not my main reason for using Zeo. I feel that there are many ways to "skin a cat" and that good husbandry practices has to be a very important factor for all of us, no matter what avenue we persue :D :D.

Beautiful tank slojmn!
What do you feel caused the tank to crash? Was there any connection with the ULN method?
When you say "macro algae control"....What kinds? Bryopsis?

Can you tell us more about which products and if you just followed mfgrs. recommendation?

Thanks-

T

T, Thanks for the compliment :)

I wish I knew what led to the demise :(. I suspect water source, possible pathogen (but most doubt that). I don't think it has anything to do with running a ULNS system but I really don't know in the end what happened. I ran the system fine for a number of years with great success. My biggest problem in the tank was keeping alk stable with my calcium reactor. I am now running a 2-part dosing system instead on the new tank and my alk has been rock steady.

By macro-algae, bryopsis is definitely on the list that I want to avoid. In my first reef tank I always fought lots of macro-algae and eventually bryopsis took down the tank...so I was really wanting to avoid this and Zeo has done the trick.

I started with the basic 4 and over time tried various other Zeo products. Now-a-days I just run the Start2, Bac, then I also add PIF, and Aminos here and there. As the system grows I will adjust my dosing. I usually frequent the Zeovit board and get great help over there when I need it.

Thanks for the additional information. Having had the Bryopsis issue in the past - I understand the frustration that can come from that.
Just as a side note - the Magnesium supplement from Kent Marine ( Tech M) has been a real life saver for a lot of people with Bryopsis issues.
Thanks again for yout input!

Again - I TOO am currently using 2 part, but - this is not a thread set up to discuss "why 2 part is better"...understand?

you didnt say that at all but the zeo site and every other zeo person i talk to says you must keep it at NSW.

all im saying is that nsw is what everyone is aiming for regardless of what system you use and that if you keep NSW youll have an awesome tank.

i just want to clarify im not bashing other methods. ive seen some absolutely killer zeo tanks. i just think NSW had more of a play in it then people give it credit for.

woops the quote was supposed to be this.

"my only gripe about zeo users, and this is directed at teesquare is they say it wont work unless you have your tank at nsw levels...Gee...can you quote me on that? I don't think I have ever stated that."

Point taken - and thanks for the correction rekn.

I am not sure about the NSW need for keeping a system via ULN.
Perhaps that is a good question to ask in this thread?
Anybody have an answer?

Thanks,
T

Zeovit recommends the following directly off their PDF for English. I have been running all types of ULNS for nearly 3 years, always strived for relative values. I do not know all the reasons why, but thought I would lend a hand...

General Guide for the ZEOvit System
English
Page 27 of 30 Guide revision 1.03
Minimum - Maximum
Ca 410 - 430 mg
Mg 1250 - 1300 mg
KH 6.5 - 7.5
K+ 380 - 400 mg
Salinity 33 - 35 ppt
Higher concentrations show no advantage. Neither growth nor coloring in SPS corals
can be positively affected. However, if any of the mentioned parameters deviates too
far, the result can quickly become negative in the established environment. We
recommend the addition of these minerals via calcium reactor, filled with coarse coral
gravel and magnesium granulates. This will keep these parameters steady and changes
will not be drastic. Soak the coral gravel in reverse osmosis water for a few days to
remove any phosphate from the material. The water should be changed a few times
during this time. It is necessary to keep these levels and salinity stable at all times if
you want to successfully keep SPS corals. Fast and drastic changes will always have a
negative effect on your animals.

BTW,
FWIW, I run zeo without a CA RX, I use 2 part by ESV dosed daily at multiple intervals to ensure constant dosing to promote stability and consistency. While it may be recommended to run a reactor, it is not necessary to do so to maintain your basic 3 paramaters, CA,ALK, MG...
Thanks,

pyle- do you have any pictures of your tanks? We would love to see them!

And if you know of anyone that has varied from the "NSW" recommendations - please ask them to share their experience.

This begs another question...:Why NOT run a system at near NSW?

T

NSW = Natural Seawater.
Yes, it is a very big part of running a probiotic system and all types of saltwater aquariums including fish only systems.
How can we expect the creatures we keep in glass boxes to stay healthy otherwise?
It is the goal for all aquarium keepers to strive for consistent and accurate NSW and NFW (Natural freshwater) levels in order to obtain a thriving environment.
