Started off with livesand, and my liverock was covered in red turf, bubble algae, macro algae, and eventually cyano set in. The new structure will be with "reefflakes" sand, only 1/2-1", no more. I removed the liverock, soaked in bleach, then 2 dips of muriatic acid, then soaked in RO/DI for 3 days, sundried for 2 days, now in bath of saltwater with fresh liverock seeding this dead rock. Also running a skimmer to pull out any additional nasties. My corals are all in a holding tank where they have gone through a series of dips to ensure no pests come over. I have lost 4 corals, but no worries, I will be looking for this tank to house less larger sized corals giving a very open-scaped appearance. I am excited about the new setup, more to come later....
