Zinc

our goal from the start was to grow colorful, healthy sps frags for the world to enjoy, and to hopefully take the pressure off wild harvests, our long term goal is to be completely sustainable and we are well on our way with hundreds of mother colonies already churning out 3rd and 4th gen frags my intention when I started the farm thread was to share our journey with the world. if you read from the start you will see how our methods have transitioned to arrive where we are today. skeptical as you may be it is metals we are playing with at the moment and the results are promising, can this be adopted to your average reeftank.....In time I believe so...

You really need to handle skepticism and questioning better. You'll get a lot more of it as you progress.

I have nothing at all against experimenting and saving wild corals but I would not suggest just anyone to jump into what you're doing. When I play around with doing something I never suggest anyone do the same. What ever happen to being ok with saying "don't try this at home."

I do keep the average aquarist in this conversation. Posting like you have does suggest to a casual google searcher that happens across this publicly read thread to go out and its safe to start dosing Zinc, Cu, and other metals of which they have no way of accurately testing and I have doubts you have as well. I do not know what safe levels are and are not.

I will have to review that thread but thats not quite anywhere near a published paper. I haven't looked at that facebook page and probably won't as I don't do facebook and same statements go towards that as well.

highly skeptical? I think our results speak for themselves....

You haven't even described your method for testing for trace elements apart from identifying the spectrophotometer you use, nor have you described your metrics for determining coral health or growth, or how you determined what levels of these elements maximized these parameters relative to control. You certainly will do all of this in the paper, which we are looking forward to reading. Why would you be upset at skepticism in at this point? In a scientific sense, you haven't really presented results.

Your claims are interesting. Your hypothesis is biologically plausible. Your anecdotes seem attractive. Now we want to see your data. Being skeptical is a normal thing at this point.

Looking forward to the paper.

All of that too.

Another question is how well do those corals that have adjusted to the increased metals do in someone's tank that does not have those elevated levels.

in time we will release our data, possibly not our dosage but data no probs...
until then don't try this at home ladies and gentleman:thumbsup:

If you're going to get a paper through peer review, my suspicion is that they will insist on knowing the dosage...

mabe ask the hundreds of people who have our frags, I think a Swedish store posted follow ups on the farm thread somewhere. aswell as a british dude if you cruse some of the aussie fb pages youll see plenty more....

It's just a question. And no, I don't do facebook.

I welcome questions and always have [most of which youll find answers to on the farm thread] im just not sure your agenda, are you trying to prove us wrong?... as stated before our journey is your journey, we are not trying to convince anyone of anything, just sharing our experience...

You seem rather defensive for welcoming questions. I have no agenda and my entire reef keeping experience is on this site along with my long running tank journal. I have no association with anything related to this hobby, government agencies, etc [emoji4]

Edit: I guess you can say I do have an agenda which is a curiosity for the truth and learning.

if you haven't already I urge you to read our thread in its entirety im sure someone with your passion and experience will quite enjoy it...

Copper at level 0,01 ppm very toxic, and at level 0,1 ppm It causes the death of all the coral in a few hours.

You really have 0,35 ppm in your tank?
Pls, can you show the results of the water analysis?

I will give a full analysis when we finish testing in February

Very thanks.
Sorry for the my stupid question, but If you have Manganese concentration in your tank 0,960 ppm, for what you ad solution with concetration 0,245 ppm ???

Another thing to realize is that we are doing real dosing of actual set amounts. Testing with what means we have available (I am doing ICP testing every 3-4 months). Many of the Trace Elements we are playing with are in products that people are buying and just randomly putting into their tanks, with no understanding of what works and what doesn't. By coming up with formulas that both work and the amounts and ingredients are well know is something that can benefit many reefers as time goes on.
