I actually don't think that most of the zoanthids we keep in the hobby carry the toxin. There's sure to be a discussion about the difference between the Zoanthus and Palythoa genus. It's the palythoas that are dangerous. I've gotten sick a few times from brushing up against them, though it wasn't the end of the world.

This is actually fairly old news. Anybody that owns any of these and doesn't know about it probably shouldn't have them.

Correct on Tuscaquatics with the "old news" however this should be even stated in some of the LFS. Just as an FYI.

Been manually removing those exact same ones in the pic from rocks in my tank for a while now. Been squirted in the mouth, corner of my eye (shoulda been wearing glasses), and have had their slime get into broken skin on my hands without any problems. I wonder why it seems that some people are much more sensitive than others. But perhaps it is similar to why some people get a rash simply from brushing up against a frogspawn or an anemone. I now remove the palys underwater, that way they can't squirt me.

Those look like Texas Trash. I remember a bunch of that making the rounds at a swap last year.

Unfortunately I bought a frag, so I've been nuking corals left and right with kalk to get the remaining polyps killed.

I never had any luck using kalk or lemon juice. The only thing that has worked for me personally is to use tweezers to yank them out one at a time. It is a lesson learned though. I never should've let them get this out of control. They sure are a fast grower, and will still grow in the worst of tank conditions.

So is this leaning more to paly or zoa? Cuz all I have a zoas dragon eyes, fire and ice, watermelon, sum other green and other purple and yellow. I don't have any palys in my tank.

Na the little ones should be fine its the the big paly's that do it. not to say the little guys are not toxic but the bigger stuff is what they were talking about

I'd recommend against the tweezers. They have a tendency to squirt into your eyes, and then you're in a world of trouble.

DopeCantWin- Thats why I remove them with the rock submerged, that way the palys can't squirt out of the water.

i got those too, i just take the rock out and dry it out, hit it with some acid, then scrub off. they pop up everywhere though, kalk doesnt work that well in the long run.
