Zoanthids 30 Gallon Zoanthid Only Tank

Whoa dude slow down. Tell us more about your equipment, what kid of lights u running? You got some nice looking Zoanthids there Zoanthids.

Sounds like a good store and from the look of your collection they get some nice Zoas. Sunny d s for $5 a polyp is a great deal. The footprint for your tank will make for an awesome ZOA tank. Can't wait to see your progress.

Ok Ok...

So my light is a 250W DE 30K bulb. Im using a lumen bright reflector.
Most of the time I only run the light at 150W since it is a dimable ballast.

For a skimmer I am using a AquaC Remora Series Protein Skimmer that hangs on the side of my sump. The reason I chose this skimmer is because, well first is was only $20 used at my LFS!! Main reason is that I do not want my water to be very clean. I have done to many hours of research, and found that water that is just a bit dirty is better for Zoanthid growth. I do however understand that not all zoanthids are the same and that some will not like the dirty water, well in that case they will go back to the fish store. :)

I have a homemade auto top-off that I made with a cheap pump, 5 float switches, and a 6 gallon bucket. There was allot of electrical tape and cutting involved, but it only took me about 2 hours to make it, and has been by far the best thing EVER built.

I currently have 2 clown fish, 1 mini hippo tang, and one anthias. Sadly... I hate them all. I'm just not a fish person. My girlfriend just had to have some fish in the tank and picked the ones off of finding nemo!!! I got the anthias, and its just a lonely fish by itself. I might re home the 2 clowns and hippo, and pick up 3 more anthias. I can just tell the girlfriend they died... OPPS!

The first picture is my ATO float switches. Yes there are 4 and yes I do need 4. :) The one at the bottom is the main control switch. When it goes down, water turns on. The two in the middle are both set the on, if the watter for some reason gets up that high it will cut off the power to the ATO pump. Those 3 are all wired into the ATO pump. The last one at the top goes to a alarm. If the water level gets that high an alarm will go off to notify me before water ends up on my floor.

The second picture is just the 6 gallon bucket that holds all the water.

The third picture shows the inside of the bucket where I have another float switch. If the water level gets to low inside the bucket it will not allow the pump to turn on. This i'm sure will be handy, so I wont burn up my pump when I forget to put in more water.

Very nice start to your collection. I started out like you. My first ever coral was a zoa. I started building a zoa collection but was bitten by the sps bug and went kinda nuts. I still buy the ocassional zoa when my lfs has some that catches my eye. Here are my two favorites from my collection. Emeralds on fire

Nice zoas for sure, this tank will be great when it fills in.

But seriously, a tang in a 30 gallon? get that tang out of there! a group of anthias really arent suited for such a small tank either.

Ya I was told that since the tank is 3 feet long and 2 feet wide the tang would be ok. The fish seems to love it, but I don't love the fish. So I'm going to re-home it.
