I've had this small frag of zoas for over a year now. It just recently closed up a few days again and i'm not real sure why?
There next to abunch of other zoanthids/palys and there all fine.
I've not added any other corals recently to the tank, and i do quarantine corals before adding them. I dont see any fungus or anything like that on them.

Do you have a picture to share? There are a lot of potential reasons why they have retracted and one of those reasons could be that absolutely nothing is wrong with them. Often they will do this for absolutely no reason, they just don't feel like expanding that day. It may not be a pest or predator at all, not even a fungus or BI. Could be that they are just retracting to clean themselves externally as many of them do periodically.

Have you witnessed any nipping by your fish? Any signs or decay or polyp degradation? Any flaking of the polyp? Any shrinking like appearance? Does the polyp appear full bodied and completely intact without any visible signs of decline at all? Can you remove it to inspect it?

Take care fellow Michigander
