Zoas not opening up

Hey guys, this is a Question i'm asking for a friend of mine. He wanted me to post it because he doesn't have access to a computer right now. He's got a tank that's been setup for awhile with zoas in the tank. He purchased a large size zoa frag 3 days ago and when he got home freshwater dipped the zoas then after 2 mins of inspecting them put them straight into his tank. The zoas have not opened completely. Only half of the colony are open. The rest have not. I told him he should have not just put them in that fast. He wants to know if they will be ok, since half of them are already open. I didnt' know what to tell him. Told him it's only been 3 days so, maybe they will be ok. Is there anything else he can do? Check the placement in the tank. The unopened polyps might not be getting the light they were used to.
He also needs to give them some time. If half of them are open, and the others do not appear to be dying, they should come around.
Also, he should make sure they aren't being hammered by flow right now. Or, if they have no flow, he might consider giving them a little.

He didn't use tap water to do the dip, did he?
He did use R/O water, right?

Thanks for the reply, he said that some of the zoas are opened and some are not. The left half of the colony is but some on the right are. If some are opened and some aren't then i guess the light/flow placement would be fine right, since most are open. He said the others dont' look like they are dying or have fungus, just not open. he said some of the ones that are closed you can see a little bit othe the zoa tips trying to poke out like it wants to open up. Not sure if this offers any more help.

I have a few like that too, All the ones like that were stressed when I acclemated them (I was impatient what can I say?) Some still haven't fully opened but only time can tell. I have heard of polyps staying closed for a few weeks and then opening up, the only thing you can do is wait, moving them will probably just stess them even more.

I'd leave where they are in the tank. I've had zoa's that took a week or two for all the polyps to open fully. If the skirts are starting to show I think he'll be fine.JMO
