zoo lighting idea ?

I am about to set up my 55gal and I have fell in love with Zoo's and Rics. I have 2 110w VHO right nowbut I plan to get 2 54w T5's. I was thinking of using the T5's for daylight and the VHO's for actinic blue. Would this be a good Idea or would I be better off going with all vho. I was thinking the color might be better with the T5/VHO combination. (I am trying to avoid the pinkish tint of all VHO)

I think that could be a nice set up...I have heard the T-5 actinics aren't as nice as VHO but the Daylights kick butt. I don't care for the Aquasun from URI to pink but, the Actinic white is nice. I think you might like that set up.

that is basically what i am doing. I am running 4 T5s (2 Daylight, 2 Actinic Blue +) and 2 VHOs. When I need to replace the daylights I am going to try 4 Actinic Blue + to see if I can get them to "pop" more.

What's cool is tha you can run all four bulbs off of a single Icecap 660.

Steven & Karen, the T-5 & VHO combo will work just fine. The key is having more actinic VHO's than the 10 K T-5's. If you have an equal or slightly more 10 k the tank will be white with little coloration. I've found nothing on the market that will provide the actinic intensity than VHO actinics. With a 55 gallon, it's going to be kinda tight to get 2 T-5's and 3 - VHO's, but if I recall from a friends tank, it's possible.

I agree that the Aquasuns are just too pink.

Also consider some good fans for venting heat with 5 bulbs over your 55.

Good luck.

Mucho

UV(formerly uri) is coming out with t-5 actinics the end of this month, and they are suppposed to be just as good as the vho's.

That will be interesting to see....I like the thought of T-5 but have not been impressed with them yet.
