Zoo pox?

I've been trying to find more info, but the search button brought up zilch and the link in the "Zoa Info Draft" at the top of this forum regarding white spots, no longer works. So here's some pics: If it is, how do I treat it? Thanks dave

Seriously? or did I miss some sarcasm, as usual?
I've seen pics of it, but it always looked more "attached" to the zoo than mine does. Plus none of the pis had that brown crap in them...

you do have the start a few pox..look and the closed polyps and not the sand build up. I would do the Furan dips and keep them QTed. Did you have any temp spikes/drops? Just curious?? good luck

thank you for the reply.. Guess I'll have to run to Marine Depot tomorrow...

No spikes or anything, that's why I am surprised I'm getting it, neither of my other zoos is affected. And from reading, sounds like my palys are immune. To me, it seemed too coincidental that it was right after they fell to the sand, but about half of them have been opening, but the other "affected" side is only opening like you can see above. Thanks you again, I really appreciate it...

sorry, at first i was serious, but after looking more closely they do look like maybe it's starting a bit. do some furan dips and pop any that you can with a toothpick and you should be good. do you have a lot of other zoos? if so you may want to consider a small quarentine just for infected pieces. good luck.

thanks, right now i only have 3 zoo frags and 3 paly frags, but i read that the palys are immune actually so I am not worried about them.
It was suggested that I try brushing them of with a soft toothbrush, which I did, and now I'm more thinking it is just crap from the fall, though it's a bit harder to tell because they are now all completely closed up. here's the new pics, what do you think?

i didn't brush super hard because i ws afraid to overstress them so i didn't get much but the top. my sand is very white so I'm not sure if the "white" spec are sand or pox. But if you notice, none of the tops have any sign of pox or sand>>>

you also have a nubi on there. 2nd pic down, bottom right hand corner, just below the zoa's. It has green frills or what ever they are called on its back. I also spotted, what looks like eggs on one of the polyps.

saw that too... saw the eggs first, but didn't see the nudi until u pointed that out. nasty little boogers! You definately need to QT those zoos. i wouldn't be too worried about the zoa pox, i'd be more scared of those nudis. check ur other zoas and see if they are closed as well. if they are closed, i suggest take out the rock they are in and qt it and dip it for the nudis and then continue the process for a couple weeks or more making sure that the eggs that hatch die too.

btw. thats a nice shot of that nudi even though those are killer to ur zoas :uzi:

good luck with ur zoas. also if u buy anything, i suggest dipping and inspecting it before u put it in ur tank. I'm in so cal as well near brea, if u need help let me know.

thanks for the heads up. I pulled them out this morning and what you guys were referring to as a zoo was still in the same spot. I pulled it off and took a pic but i cant get it on my computer right now. Also what you guys are saying are eggs too. I FW dipped them with VC yesterday so I'm thinking the reason the nudi didn't didn't move is because it was dead.
I'm going to MD today to get some furan and iodine so i will dip the iodine later tonight.

To do that, how much iodine for how much water? thanks, dave

i pulled the affected colony today and gave it a FW iodine dip and it is currently Qt'd in a bucket in the garage. But when I did the dip, nothing came off the rock...

make sure u blast the the zoas/or the rock each and every hole just to make sure u get them out of it. they tend to hide in the holes and crevices. also, how long did u dip it for?

I followed mucho Reef's directions here to a T so about 5-10 minutes...

I hate nudis! Dip again in 7-10 days and I would QT. You also do not have to follow Muchos dip to a "T". Tap works much better because of the chlorine and the pH is higher so you do not have to adjust it...JMHO

didn't know that, thanks for the tip. So far so good, I look at all my zoos and have not seen another one, or even the same one for that matter. I have also not lost a single polyp. Any ideas on how fast they consume them?

I also got a yellow coris wrasse today to help keep them away...
