zoo tank updates

Did the zoo ever install the exhaust fan? and if not do they ever plan to? The high humidity down there will decrease evaporation... which doenst help our heat problem

I left a fairly urgent message for Mike re: vent fan. I indicated that we may unable to stabilize temps without it.

I haven't seen it but apparently yesterday the zoo posted an ad indicating that a reef tank was coming.

Paul Pm'd me a good idea that we should meet and discuss maintenance routines and write some stuff out. I brought in a log book to the zoo. We should start tracking parameters, and log in anything done, supplements added etc. Also any ideas for a quicky brochure or handout, as well as perhaps a couple of quick makeshift posters.

What night next week might folks be able to meet at the zoo?

I will be on the West Coast(Seattle&Vancouver) Thursday to Thursday so... earliest for me is next fri or sat

Lucky...

I went to thye zoo tonight (Monday). I started the tank log (red book next to tank). Tank parameters:
Temp 84.8 F Large fan was on middle setting. Heater on left was still coming on periodically so I reset it down to 75.

Salinity 1.024

Ph 8.4

Nitrates 10ppm

Calcium 500ppm (not suprising due to new rock and sand.

Alk - 6 dkh. I added 2 1/2 cups of randy's two part (alk only) and raised it to 10 dkh.

The corals looked pretty poor.

The lights controlled by the timer on the right didn't go off on their own so I had to manually turn them off. Lights may have been remaining on.

Paul: can youy go there and reprogram that timer?

Can Paul or any one go to zoo tomorrow and check on tank. I won't be able to make it back there so can folks please stop by and check on primarily temp.

Also if anyone has a coralline covered rock or two to add to tank. Just temporarily until we seed the other rock. I'm afraid we may not have enough. Any other live sand contributions would be great as well.

Piazzon : a zoo meeting the Friday or Sat. after your return would be great.

what time were you there jerry? i think i set them atinics on at 9:00am daylights 10:00 am(Zoo opening) and going off at like 6:00pm in reverse(zoo closing).

what time were you there jerry? i think i set them atinics on at 9:00am daylights 10:00 am(Zoo opening) and going off at like 6:00pm in reverse(zoo closing). I did test to make sure they worked. seemed to be fine.

I think we turned the atinics on manually the day we officially started the tank, so that we could see in the room in the front of the tank, it may have never been changed back to auto.

I can check out the lighting tonight. Jerry please PM me the Zoo contact so I can call them and let them know when I'll be coming down.

Stop at zoo today:
Timers:
Both timers were off. I reset the timers:
Timer 1: on:08:00AM off:06:30PM
Timer 2: on:09:00AM off:05:30PM
If it needs adjusted let me know.
Temp: 80.5 (I did not make any adjustments)
Salinity: 1.0235 (I did not make any adjustments)
**************
Note on Timers:
The timer on/off cycles from Off->Auto->On->Auto->Off.
Scenario 1. Lights off and you want them on to work on tank
Pressing on/off will switch the timer to On and lights will be on.
When finished you want to turn them off and put the time back to auto.
Press on/off the 1st time: Goes from on->Auto but lights will stay on till next off time
Press on/off the 2nd time: Timer goes from Auto->off and lights will stay off
Press on/off the 3rd time: Timer no goes from off->auto. The lights will be off and the system back on auto
*** In general you may have to press the on/off button 3 types to cycle back to what you want. Just ensure the display shows AUTO when you leave.

Nate and/or Vince; Can either or both of you stop by the tank at any point this weekend to check on the zoo tanK? Anyone else else is fine too but these guys are the closest. Thanx.

Anybody else? AQdam, Paul, Vince? It should just take a few minutes to check on temp etc. I'll try to check it late Sunday afternoon when I get back from jersey.
