Great interview. What an amazing job all of you guys have done. The community will love it!

I just wanted to say Nice Work all and thank you for taking pride in your community. It is nice to see you all taking the time to do something nice for the Zoo and Broome County.

Looks awesome! Thank you!

Welcome back Frankandmaura! And thanks.

I'll be at the zoo Friday at about 4;15. I want to be there early enough to catch the caretakers to see how they are doing with the new fish and to update the daily care procedures. Maybe we could paint the door as well and anything else.

I went to the zoo earlier. Things so far are looking surprisingly good. The corals are all hanging in their. The two new tangs haven't yet began eating food yet but are grazing on algae. I showed one of the caretakers how to test alkalinity and adjust as needed. Calcium is really starting to drop (now at 380) so we need to hook up the calcium bucket and aqualifter. I replaced the burned out super actinic but i still need to replace the white actinics but I wasn't sure which ones they were. Please post when next folks can meet to finish things up: Light pulleys, change lamps, calcium doser, paint door etc. Also, when should we do the first water change (the tank was born on 7/27 but critters have only been in for 1 week.

sorry I did not make it to the zoo yesterday. When I woke up yesterday there was water on the basement floor. My freezer broke and I had to spend the day purchasing a new refrige (to replace the freezer) and attempting to save as much food as possible.

Anyone available Sunday: say about 4:30 to meet at the zoo? We will also need a 5 gallon salt bucket with lid for the calcium dosing system.

I can't make it either, I'm visiting family in Elmira. I'd be willing to go down some weeknight if the painting still needs done. Also, when I stopped by last, they were tearing the place apart to fix the leaking otter/penguin tanks... they might end up repainting the whole area... maybe we should find out the plan.

OK, no worries. Would Wednesday night work for anybody? Could anybody stop by before that to check and probably add some calcium?

Might be able to make Wed night. As for adding alk/calcium, do we have it stored anywhere? Also what time Wed night. When I was there on Sunday I dropped of the salt bucket (under the log). They were working on the Otter tank and the lower section was closed to the public.

There bis some Ca in a white C-balance bottle under the tank (its actuall from dow flake). Alkalinty can be added from the alk dosing bucket.

I'll be at the zoo tomorrow a bit after 5 PM if anyone else can make it. Nate and/or Vince, any chance either of you can be there to make the ca dosing system?

Great job Dave. thanks! We also set up the calcium dosing system so that Ca and Alk are now automated. Parameters are showing signs of stabilization. Everything looks good and the diatoms are slowly abating. Unfortunately the hippo tang looked terrible and had some ich spots so we removed him. I took him home in the hope of trying to rehab him but its probably a futile endeavor. I'll soon attempt to replace him so if anyone needs livestock from LiveAquaria please let me know by about Sunday.

Yes thanks to my amazing fish catching skillz we were able to remove the sick hippo tang. He really didn’t put up much of a fight as Vince will attest to. Jerry, Vince, and I decided it would be best to remove him now before his condition worsens and spreads to the other two beautiful tangs. I don’t have much hope for him but Jerry will try to nurse him back to health and we will go from there. The tank is looking better every time I see it and I can tell Jerry and the zoo keepers are doing a nice job maintaining it! Also Vince setup the new actinic bulbs last night. The tank looks much better since removing the white actinics and replacing them with the new blue ones.

Sounds like a very productive evening. Glad all is going well. Unable to make it as I continue to encounter different problems. Last time the freezer in the house broke, last night I had to spend the evening replacing a car battery.

I haven't seen the tank since Wednesday but I'll probably check in on it late this afternoon. The tang amazingly is hanging in there though he is still not visibly eating. I have offered everything I have. All manner of flake and frozen foods, nori etc. Strangely, his ich has cleared up at least for now. I just pray we got him out before infecting the others. I'll order a new tang tomorrow.
