You could introduce some flatworms. You'll get them sooner or later. J/k I've got plenty of bugs and a whole lot of rock work, which would make for a happy home. I'd be willing to trade for it, should you change your mind about keeping it.

You could also dose phyto, that seems to boost my bug population. You can also buy live brine shrimp, or hatch your own until your bug population catches up.

Has anyone tried cyclopeeze with mandarins?

I used Cyclopeeze to feed all our incoming mandarins when I work in wholesale. Stuff works wonders. Any small marine copepod seems to work wonders though

One of our sponsors sells tigger pods, which my mandarin dragonette really relishes. They're pricey, but you can use them to establish your tank. Their phyto also feeds the pods you have, so you can get a healthy population going. The scooter blennies are actually, I think, a dragonette, and would enjoy them too, if you start running thin on them. You'll see your little guy study a rock and then nip at it. That was a pod going to pod-heaven.

I had excellent results with zooplankton. All my fish relished it espically my anthia.

My tank likes zooplankton. My clowns and goby much it up. Also, my cleaner shrimp enjoys it too. Some of it even falls into my brain

A couple of my fish eat the zooplankton but I won't buy it again. If the dragonette won't eat cyclopeze, you would be wise to take him back to to the store for credit. A new tank just won't have the pod population to keep him alive long.
