Zoos melting

I have noticed that a few of my Zoo colonies appear to be melting. Could this be due to my current low Mag level or more likely due to the low nutrient tank? I have been using Prodibio for the last 4 months and have noticed my zoos melting over the last week or so. I have a SPS domintated tank but love zoos as well. Is Prodibio and zoos not a good mix?

wow primtime, seems like you and I are going through the same thing..check out my post...wierd thing is that I have started dosing to get to low nutrient levels as well...

I have some friends with majority SPS loaded tank that run zero nutrient tanks and CAN'T keep zoa's. but know of some that CAN keep them in a zeo tank.

I am going to see what happens over the next week or so. If things get worse, I will sell my Purple deaths and Jokers, I know they are palys but dont want to lose them this way.

Why sell, have some friends hold them for you. THey grow fast and you can give them a couple polyps as a payment for holding them for you.

Good point !!! :)

My 120 was a 0 nutrient tank without any store bought "systems", then I switched to Prodibio to help feed the corals and get some colors back in my sps. The whole time I never had any problems with zoas melting. They cetainly don't multiply as fast in a clean system, but they never melted either. Only time I would have a problem was if I got some frags from a dirty tank. I had to be real careful how I put them in my tank and where, or they would close up and never reopen. Although, I have since started to dose Vitamin C and that seems to have stopped as well.

I have heard a few people commenting on the C dosing but I cant find the link..does anybody have that thread subscribed and can post??Thanks

yeah found it...what a shock the search not working!! thanks primetime...What do you think? is it c dose time??

I agree with the lower nutrient thing being hard on zoas. Everytime I do a water change my zoas look terrible while my SPS and LPS look wonderful. I lose the majority of my zoas a couple of days after a water change. I would dip those in RO/DI for a minute and then dose the tank with Vitamin C.

I will read up on the Vitamin C dosing thread. I like to read a lot before doing anything.

Harley, my zoos have not gotten worse but not any better either. hopefully I have gotten through this w/o more damage.

I agree on reading up on it. Most of what you will hear is subjective. Many of the vitamin c brands have gelatin and other inert ingredients in them that will make your skimmer act up. One that that you will most likely not find is any "vitamin C killed my tank" results.
