Im by no means saying Im the speaker of the people and can only speak on behalf of my own flagrence
This horse will never die though, as long as their people who are obnoxious when setting the prices of rare corals. The age old supply and demand is soo true and will be the first to attest, but when the prices are skyrocketed before the demand can come into play>COUGH< >AUSSIE ACANS< >cough<, it's just blatant and quite a turn off or stain on the hobby in my eyes. Sorry bug in my throat
But some
corals are genuinly rare and sad but true there is just no way around the price as it is truly set by demand, not some dude in the back room scouring RC for the next trendy coral.
I think the silence is because most discussions of such get stifled by "supply and demand" which inadvertantly blanket all high marked corals whether the supply and demand ratio is accurate or not or simply "dont like it dont buy it", which obviously has no argument against, ultimately.
Now that I think more about this I could go on for days!lol. You mention clones. If it is a true clone, what makes it rare? Lineage..Even if it came from the same original colony in the wild sharing the same genetics, only later harvested, it becomes less rare?
Or the fact that it may have been distributed much earlier and has been slowly populating a small community in Montanna but Tyree thought he got the first batch that came in(which in reality was the second) and put his stamp of approval as an exotic coral worthy of distribution but has never been seen before. All the while going uncontested because this small mountain town in Montanna
who recieved the first distribution of this rare coral doesnt have internet and therefore can not contest such claims of original lineage....But, it could happen
Also on the discussion of lineage, if two coral shipments from the same collected area get sent to two locals why does it become more expensive when it passes through a certain series of hands as opposed next?
To me there just is no absolute way of governing, therefore carries no legitimacy other than one person's word. Which in a perfect world should end there. But everyone falls on hard times, and people go through bad periods in there lives where scruples may not be a priority. How does one check? There are no papers, there are genetics, and it is not difficult at all to find out where a particular coral came from and the chain that followed under them. Then through all of this are you really going to do a background check and see if that person really did get it from Tubs, GCarol, Nathan, or Palletta, or there cousins friend's mother who does there hair and owns a nano in her shop?
No the spirit is not lost. The last regional swap I saw brotherhood and giving even amongst some obvious, I'll just say a coral hungry few. Big props to bluenasserius, dont mean to spotlight you but that was flat out cool. Place quite a few frags on the table unmarked, just so happen to be the most exotic stuff he had on his person at the time. Thought I'd end on a positive note, sorry for going on, Im not mad, defensive or irratated I swear! And I hope my comments dont harvest such feelings either.
