100 Gallon Cube Tank Build

If I lose anything else out of my tank I'm going to be extremely ****ed...although there's not much more I can lose :(

I went on vacation two weeks ago. When I left I turned off my skimmer (to prevent it from overflowing while I was gone) and left "ice cubes" of fish food for my roommate to feed the fish. When I returned home I lost the following fish:
-blue tang
-TWO PAIRS of picasso clowns
-midas blenny
-tailspot blenny
-two neon gobies
-"tiger" goby

I'm thinking that since the blue tang was the last thing I added he brought in something and nuked my tank. I still have my leopard wrasse, 3 gobies (tiny) and that blue stripe pipefish that's practically bulletproof. If you do the math on the price of those fish I lost it's over $500 :(

At the moment I am incredibly discouraged. If I lose anything else (like my mantis Sam) I think I'll just tear down the tank and use it for freshwater or a decoration in my basement :(

I hate to hear that. I hope your luck turns around and you stick with it. St.Louis Hobbist are dropping like flys, I hate to see anyone else go.

Sorry Chelsey :( Vacations are bad news for tanks. I had a neighbor take care of mine while i was gone and a power head shut off and i lost corals. Although that's nothing compared to losing all of those fish :(

I can extend her credit limit

Chelsey,
I'm sorry for your losses....

I can sympathize, day after thanksgiving I lost my Red sea Regal Angel that I'd had for a year, a Tomini Tang I'd had for more than 3 years and a black cap basslet. It was horrible, my wife actually cried...

You'll get through it....

Nick

After setting up a large QT tank (suggested by several prominent fish keepers on RC) and letting it run for a while I ordered some replacement fish from Live Aquaria. The fish came in today and I could not be happier with what LA sent me. I'll post pics sometime this weekend, I'd rather not freak the fish out by taking pics of them today. I chose LA over the LFS primarily because of their 14 day guarantee, but they were also cheaper despite having to pay shipping (it was only $35!). Here's what I ordered from them:

*Juv. orange shoulder tang (already eating flake!)

*tailspot blenny (1" - tiny little dude!)

*midas blenny (At 4" he's larger than Melvin but still cute)

*blue and gold blenny (pretty darn cool fish!)

*two-spot/bimaculatus blenny (unavailable for shipping, but I'll be getting it shipped to me within 2 weeks)

I will also be getting a super nice pair of picassos in a few weeks, but I don't have the guts to have those shipped to me yet.

After the remaining fish are shipped to me the only other fish I will be getting is a red-headed goby and maybe a juvenile interruptus angel from RCT Hawaii. Last I heard Frank had not yet started building his facility, so it'll likely be much later than February of 2009 before I get this one. Losing all of those fish and being so upset about it made me question whether I could handle losing a more expensive, more special fish.

Good luck on the blennies! I ordered six and four of them died but they did credit my account. I think they get the specimens in and then ship them out as soon as they are available which stresses them badly. I think they should keep them in their warehouse for a few weeks to make sure they are adopting well in captivity before shipping.

Thanks for the compliment, but as I said I'm afraid it would freak the fish out. My mantis and my old picasso pair (RIP) are the only ones that will show off for the camera...nobody else really likes it when I take pics.
