1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

all I can say is I'm hmbled by the forethought and scope of your build my friend!...quick question though...did you come up with the sump design ? it looks truly amazing!

I live close to TBLR and they are a good company, been doing it for a long time. However, I have two 500g and I think it is MUCH easier to go with Dry and then seed.

First with dry you can take your time and build the structures you want. I placed mine outside on the pool deck and taped off the dimensions of the tank. I then moved the pieces all over the place to create the look I wanted and then put them in the tank. Doing this with live rock, trying to glue it, keep it wet, doesn't work....

Furthermore you are NOT bringing in unwanted things into your tank and all live rock has something inside that you dont see, some good, some bad.

With the time and expense you have put into this project, a month of curing wont even be noticed down the road.

Thank you Edward. I wish I was smart enough to come up with the sump design. This is actually the largest production sump that Royal Exclusiv makes. Its a production sump that we modified to fit my needs for my build.

Incredible!!

Thanks Dinger!

Yeah I've totally seen better with DIY from old broken tanks patched together...

... can you taste the jelly?

Jelly or salt? :fun4::rollface:

Agree. that is the plan. do majority of aqua scaping with dry rock and then seed it with a quantity of live rock.

Lolz.

I want to live in that sump...it's nicer than my house, lol

That sump cost me more than my first car. lol

Hey socaltoaz, just wanted to say your house and tank are going to be amazing. I got lucky enough to see it in person (the company I work for did the slab and walls at your house) and soon as I saw the box out for the tank area I was jealous. Was able to peek in there today (were working on the house just up the road) and see it with the tank sitting there and I was even more amazed.

But yea I'm quite a bit jealous and your tank and house are going to be amazing

awesome Lurch. thanks for all the hard work on the home. We greatly appreciate everyone who put a lot of effort into making our dream home come true!

Glad your stoked on it. Would love the chance to see it up and running at some point but in the mean time I'm subscribed to this thread and hoping I get to go up to silverleaf every now and then in the next little bit and see the progress.

Socaltoaz, i tried to send you a pm, but it wouldnt let me due to post count so heres the gyst of it...

Hey, I really hope i didn't creep you out or anything by my post. I just saw the setup and was amazed, then posted a few pics on the Arizona marine society fb group and someone turned me on to your build thread. So I just wanted to comment and give my admiration to both your house and tank since I had a small chance to take part in it.

No freak out lurch. All is good. I'm just waiting on my sump to be delivered. Met with my plumber today and he happens to be a reefer and we discussed the importance of a clean install. No loose wires, no randomn pipes. Everything well thought through and laid out. As you saw, we are getting close to move in. Hoping that the fish tank gods will bless us with proper delivery of my sump and a trouble free install of the equipment.

Where's the fun in that socal. You haven't lived until you walk into you're hallway to find a couple of 100 litres of tank water on the floor and what can only be described as a belagio fountain going on under the tank . Boy was I in the dog house! lol

Update:

House is coming along- we are in the final stages. Flooring is all done. Have a few cabinets left to hang. Lighting is in. Tile is in. Appliance install next week hopefully.

I also met with my plumber and we went over how to hook up all the pipes. We are going to probably do a Bean Animal type drain- 3 pipes going to the fish room and 2 pipes coming back.

I have wired my final payment to Germany and Royal Exclusiv as the sump is complete and is being shipped as we speak. I hope to have possession of it in the next week or so.

In the mean while, the fish room is being prepared and painted- floors and walls with epoxy paint. We are also plumbing for a sink and the water storage/mixing tanks.

Home stretch - we hope to move in the house in the next 4-6 weeks at the most (hopefully sooner). My plan is to have the tank start cycling before we move in.

Here are some current pictures as of a few days ago to show the progress. Wood floor in the great room is complete as of today:

Great room with the flooring going in:

Hallway painted

Kitchen ceiling is done - counters and back cabinets (last big item left in the house ) will be done early part of next week

What appliances are you going with?

We're redoing our kitchen right now and kind of was leaning towards Viking.

The more I spoke with people they said to run away from Viking.

Now we're going with Wolf for the cooking appliances.

Viking is not good. Great branding and name - very poor quality. We had all viking in one of our previous homes. Nothing but trouble.

Wolf is considered fantastic- we have mostly Wolf/ Subzero (same company) and a few other brands. The house has two kitchens- the second prep kitchen we have a wolf induction cook top- easy to clean and maintain. In the main kitchen, we are doing a red Cornufe stove/oven combo.

Stick with Wolf- its a great product.

Sounds like really nice kitchens :)

Yeah pretty much already wrote off Viking. My wife loved their French door double oven, but yeah... doesn't mean much if it doesn't work...

Pretty much 100% locked into Wolf now :)

Thanks!
