Currently setting up a 100g aqua 1 reef tank, it has 70kg of live rock, 1 return pump, 1 bio reactor, 1 uv steriliser, 1 TMC 600 protein skimmer (rated for 120g), vertex aquaristik lights.

Stocking dreams
2 percula clowns
1 yellow tank
1 purple tang
1 regal angel (understand risks)
2 leopard wrasses
1 bi colour blenny
2 ruby scooter blenny
1 pistol shrimp goby pair
+about 5 other small ish fish (bengai, chromis, dartfish) havnt decided, could use some suggestion.

Does this bio load seem ok on a skimmer only rated for 120g, if not could you suggest one? my aim is to make an exceptional coral tank(clean water)
Any suggestions are much appreciated! :)

I should mention i already have a juvenile yellow tang in the aquarium. my plan for the purple is to float him in a deep clear barrel first for a week so they get used to each other. the purple will also be juvenile.

It seems like that is too many fish, especially if you don't have a monster skimmer.

There is almost no chance the purple and yellow coexist long term in a 100g aquarium.

that's way too many fish. I would leave the Purple Tang off the list. Also the Regal Tang is way too big for a 100 gallon, they require a minimum 180 gallon. The leopard wrasses get up 6 inches in size, 2 will not work. For as the skimmer, I recommend something rated for 200 gallons or more. Most skimmers actually produce less than what they are rated for.

In terms of wrasses I already have them, they have been living for over a year comfortably in my 30g tank along with that baby yellow, but now they are to be transfered into the big tank :)

This is it atm

It's your tank. 2 tangs and a regal is totally doable in a 100g. Start with a small yellow and purple - it will be years before they grow out of it, if ever.

It's your tank, your time, your money. Get the fish you want.

Yeah. But it's not morally correct to shove big fish in small tanks.

It's your life, steal from old ladies. But is it morally correct?

Same principle.

Heard and understood, i think 2 juvenile tangs and let them grow. no regal angel but maybe a flameback? also just check and my skimmer is actually rated for 900 liters (200g) so aside the angel i think i will go ahead with that stocking plan
thanks :)

That is an idiotic analogy. You are equating a violent, illegal act with stocking a fish tank. Yellow tangs are rated for 100 gallons. Many sites (LA is not the only authority) rate purple tangs the same.

100 gallons is not a small tank. These are not "big fish" - as evidenced by the fact that they are rated for tanks very close in size to the one he has. He's not asking about a Sohal or a Naso, or a huge angel or trigger. He's clearly done some research and he's contemplating slow growing tangs that are ROUTINELY found in tanks smaller than 100 gallons.

Not everyone is going to agree with you. That doesn't make the disagreeing party a monster...

And don't get me started on the "morally correct" stuff. Seriously, don't. There is nothing morally correct about this hobby. We aren't doing these fish any favors removing them from the ocean.

Anyway, it's probably safer getting one tang and a smaller angel (I'd recommend a flame angel myself). But if I wanted a yellow and a purple, and I could find two small specimens to add at the same time, I wouldn't think twice.

Sure it's his tank , his time and his money ...

Starting out with that list of fish and he'll probably end up with ;

one purple tang good for the nuthouse , a bicolor Blenny , scooter dragonet and maybe clownfish if they had a anemone to hide in and weren't incited to jump out like all the other fishies that the purple tang chased around....lol

Disclaimer: my opinion is based on every mistake all the clients I ever had have made , and not on personal experiences....I hate purple tangs [emoji13]

Yup, clowns already have 2 bubble tips in the tank for them in the far left corner, also a purple is my dream fish!! So maybe temptation will get the Bettrr of me :/ thanks for both of your opinions (will probably get a flame angel) also should I stop at just the 10 fish??
Thanks

Lol! It's a pretty fish if I had 3000gal. I'd get 10, but never a single one in a restrained space.

If it's your dream fish... Get a really tiny one introduce him last and skip on the yellow tang ( for his own safety). And try to get fish that perch, hide in burrows and dens and won't invade his swimming space!

Good luck

Good luck, with those fish, your chances are not good with that combo, as they more than likely developed ich or some other illness from being stressed out, that will force you to look at an empty tank for at least 72 days.

Also would you say plenty of food would reduce a purples aggression?

Not likely , it's not a food thing . It's rather a swimming boredom, lack of space, territorial thing... A little bit like a dog that doesn't get enough exercise and starts obsessing over the mailman, and people walking in front of their house along with eating your couch and blinds and raiding your garbage, etc.
Plus over feeding could potentially make the fish bigger stronger faster.... and then be detrimental to his health in the long run. Mostly fatty liver and kidney problems. Without mentioning water issues and fast growing unwanted critter load like bristle worms.

If you see the picture higher up u can make out the yellow tang in the corner, I guess he will be the only zebrasoma :(

Just saying that when I originally introduced my yellow to a 50 g about 3 months ago he did chase around my other fish for maybe 2 days then became the most peaceful guy ever, that tank was also totally overcrowded!

Yes yellow tangs are know to be somewhat pushy but rarely really aggressive... The purple is pretty much the " baddest" zebrasoma.

Then again if you happen to have the " aquarium channel " at home ( I do , and it's oftEn on because my son loves it) you'll notice they have a yellow and a purple together... Though the camera points to the middle of the aquarium , I have no idea how large the tank is. But one thing you' lol notice is that there's a big mama clarkii in there that's a big as both tang and she seems to be setting the tone.

Cheers
