100g My First Tank

You will love the closed loop much better than putting PHs in your tank. I have to say that is one of the best decisions I made. Well that and the 4 way squirt. Well and purchasing my rock from OceanPro. I'm in So Cal and walked in and hand picked the cherry pieces! The guys there were super. There was no one in the store so they let me walk through into where the rock had been received the night before. I cut through about 10 different boxes with my 9 year old daughter and 5 year old son. We landed 33 lbs of killer marshall island another 35 lbs of fiji ultra premium, 3 lbs of tonga branch and a 7 lb rock of kenli. The rock is not fully cured (although they do have some in several tubs). The rock had tons of life and coraline. I highly recommend OceanPro rock. It rocks! Joshua, bock onto your thread! On the closed loop, I think Melv had the mag inside his tank. I'd plan to place the pump outside the tank and don't use a mag they are noisy.

oh i didnt get a mag, its a OR 6500 and its going under my tank.

unfortunatly i have a mag 9.5 in my sump for my sump return

Joshua, mag in the sum is ok. Might hold it off the base of the sump an inch or 2 or put a small sponge under it. Mine rattled or hummed a bit more with contact to the bottom so I pulled it up an inch. I have a mag 5 return from my sump and it seems fine. I had a mag 7 in my All Flow filter and it was really noisey I replaced with a rio 2500 and it runs real quiet. Might have just been that specific unit?

Josh, good job so far...two things not sure but where are you located. I have a great supplier of FIJI, if you look at my thread

and another friend of mine in VA

You will see the type of Coraline growth we have, and depending on where you located the rock will come fully cured. and at 3.99 per pound the quality is ridiculous.

As far as your pump....good luck with that I had a MAG which was noisy and ran a bit warm....I now run a Quiet One pump, which is great. I also second the opinion of the closed loop. If I could redo everything.....I would probably do a true closed loop, the manifold can actually be moded directly into the tank using the megaflow. Again check it out on my thread.....simple to make, but keep im ming that if you did a true closed loop with the mod you will definately not need any additional flow. What type of tank do you plan on having SPS, LPS, softies?

I plan on sps on top soaking in that 500w of 14k hamiltons and more softy on bottum.

I found a whole sale place that gets shipments in regularly of fiji with lots of good stuff on them. And they are only a mile from me with the same price. He also has some marshall and buna and kalieni that I can all hand pick.

Alrighty it took 2 weeks of ordering and getting all the parts, but I put the whole CL in today. Lots of sawing, glueing and cusing but i think it turned out great.

Tomorow I will fill up the tank and test for leaks and how good the CL works or doesnt lol.

If anyone see's anything to correct in the pictures point it out.

Here is a full tank shot, sorry for the flash glare

And the self i had to build so i can have room for a chiller underneth, also incase the OR leaks it will leak into the sump

Well no leaks so far, but got a few hurdles to get over. So if you got suggestions do tell.

Durso pipe flushing, cant find the durso standpipe site anymore, so i forgot the fix.

Need to make the drain pipe longer its slamming the water from 4 inches above the water line.

the tank is un even, but its not in its final spot so i dont know if it will change, but how can i even it out if i have to, and its on carpet.

Damn OR sounds like a outboard motor, but i think its all the air bubbles its sucking from putting the water in the tank.

Here is a 60sec clip of the cl and return on with a plastic plant, not to much movment cause its in the middle of the tank. But it takes about a whole min for the super squirt to cycle
