10g nano w/ 5g sump

I recently started a 10g nano in my office at work, which replaced a small 5g frshwater tank. I was considering using the 5g to hold a small skimmer, the heater, and maybe a small refugium, also It will help decluter the main tank. I was thinking of making a diy pvc overflow to accomplish this. what do you think? Yay or Nay?

Water changes are your friend in this situation. There is a lot to go wrong on a 10g tank with extra equipment.
