So when you decide to open up the closed loop the tnak will drain down that far correct ? Isnt that going to be a little bit of a hassle?

Maybe adding a ball valve before hat end cap would have been the correct choice. Or screw something into the closed loop hole in the tank to stop flow out the back while you cut the pipe.

Also the replacement bulkhead you got from savko fit that hole correctly? What size fitting does it have on it ?

I just looked up the bulhead you got and it gave me this info,
1.5" (2 3/8"-2.5" hole)

Did you have to cut the hole biger to make this guy fit or did it work ok on your stock tank? I have the 70 gal rubbemaid and am looking for a new bulkhead. Regardless the $9 price for this savko bulkhead is cheaper than the $20-30 it costs to get a new rubbermaid bulkhead.

Levon, I should have added the ball valve to the CL pipe already. Luckily, my sump will hold enough water to drain the tank that low. I may plug from the inside like you suggested before I cut the pipe. I will definitely add a ball valve when I construct my closed loop.

I had to drill a larger hole in the tub for that bulkhead. I just used a hole saw and went very slow to get it started. It worked great.

What type of threaded fitting fit on that bulkhead ? Is it 1.5" threaded on the outside or inside?

It is a slip fit bulkhead so 1 1/2" pvc fits into the back of the bulkhead. I'm not sure what size threads into the inside.

You're gonna love that skimmer!

Really good job on that stand.

Thanks for the compliment. I know what you mean about the skimmer. I always read about how nasty the nog smells from high end skimmers and never know what they were talking about. Because the stuff my bakpak pulls off my 65 gallon is nasty, but doesn't smell that horrible. Well the stuff this H&S has already pulled from my new system is disgusting. And there is nothing in the tank yet. I can only imagine how bad it will be when the tank is stocked.

I found this on the glass this morning. This is the best pic I could get. I suppose they are snail eggs.

And there are thousands of these critters (I guess copepods) crawling all over the glass

I will get another 15 lbs of live rock delivered tomorrow. Hopefully it will have lots of color.

Let me just say WOW !!!!!!!!!!. I currently have a 90g that I am quite disapointed with the stand and was going to have a new one made.

Then I decided if I am going to do that, I might as well upgrade to a 120 or 150. When I saw your thread I decided to take a look. I just want you to know and I hope you are not mad but I am totaly going to lift your design (obviously giving you all the credit for it) I absolutely love it.
I can only hope mine comes out half as nice as yours.

Steelerfan, thanks for the compliments. And what is a guy in Miami doing with a name like Steelerfan? (Go Dolphins!) Feel free to copy anything I have done. The whole point in documenting a process like this is so others can follow and give feedback and get ideas.

Here is a link to the thread where I documented the construction of the stand. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Thanks. I built the stand and canopy. Your compliment means a lot considering you are a finish carpenter.

Hey Marino. You stated you purchased this tank used. Did the sides and the back come painted black or did you do this to hold in the light or some other reason?
Also, I looked at your previous thread where you showed the canopy front opening up. Did you finaly go this route or did you decide to use the doors?

The previous owner had this tank built in wall so the sides and back were painted black. I scraped the paint from the sides and left it on the back.

As far as the canopy goes, the entire front does flip up. I made it this way to allow better access when putting in corals or live rock. I also put doors to allow for everyday access like feeding.

I would still like to know why you are not a Dolphins fan? You live right in their backyard!

More Rock

More Rock

I was not completely satisfied with my live rock order because of the lack of life and color on it. I contacted Premium Aquatics and they immediately responded and offered to send more rock free of charge when they received a better shipment! I received another 15 lbs today and it is much nicer in color and life. Premium Aquatics is a top notch company with awesome customer service. I highly recommend them.

And the shapes of this Marshall Island rock is unbelievable. It blows Figi live rock away in my opinion. Check out the pictures.
