1200 Gallon One Of A Kind Reef Project

No water in it but most of the stone work is done. The person who started the stone work is done a great job and he is having some back problem. He is done almost 80% of the work and even we watched him we decided to let him finish it even if it takes a few days more. Pictures are taken and waiting for them to be uploaded.

There will be water in it in less than two weeks.
 
Everytime I setup a big tank I think is big and then I start thinking about a bigger tank (what is next size ?) :) It is a big project that will be moving fast soon.

Amazing tank, keep up the awesome updates! We love 'em. Will the sump, fuge and skimmer, all be located in the back room?

First I thought I will have all the filtration in a back room that is about 25' away from the tank and it looks like most of them will be under it and I might have them on wheels. Space is a problem and trying to make everything fit.

Good job so far.
Couple of things.
Always use adjustable feet on the botttom of your stand legs. Takes the heartache out of levelling the stand. Washers place uneven stresses on the stand's joints, however, as your stand looks like it was taken off the Eiffel Tower, this should not be an issue :D
Foam is a serious overkill. It's easier to get a slightly higher compression foam at 1/3 the thickness. Not a biggie though.

I have a couple of questions, but first let me comment... This is an awesome thread and I've really enjoyed reading about this project and seeing it come together...

Did you have someone come by and survey the floor there to be certain that it will handle the weight?

I didn't see a response to the comment about the 3/4" glass thickness... I don't build aquariums, but I'm surprised that this is sufficient. How much force can that silicon handle?

Didn't you want to do a leak check before building that enclosure around the tank? Perhaps AO does a leak check prior to shipment?
 
This floor should be strong enough for this tank and specially the stand has 6 legs. This floor is 4" concret on top of a hard rocky floor. We had that in mind and we checked the floor before we decide. First we thought about four legs which would've been fine and we decided to go to 6 legs instead. Washers will be straight like a metal plate and it used enought thickness to make it easy push under the leg. The stand was overkill and I rather have it that way than sorry later. Stone job was done as of today and will post pictures tomorrow.
having it check for leak before filling might've been a good idea and good suggestion and we are crossing fingers everything is fine. The company that made this aquarium said that thickness should be fine and they build big aquariums all the time and I trust their judgment in that field. Hope everything goes well this week and we will start filling it this coming weekend. Just waiting for the wood work in the last two days (will update).
