1200 Gallon One Of A Kind Reef Project

cement is on the bottom and a pice of screen was used to make the surface rough. Some people put nails on a piece of wood to do that but a piece of screen works better. It was let dry at least 24 hours before stone work.

Starting from the corner Todd started stone work. Todd is a reefer and does construction for living. He helped REEFNEST in the past with some school project and I decided to hire him to do this work. He is the one who did the frame for one of the schools (montrousville) for not charge and just to help REEFNEST educational program. There is another company that does sheet metal in our city and they helped and built the stainless steel canopy for Loyalsock high at a cost of material and free labor and I decided to give another job that needed. I refer people to those who try and help REEFNEST or any educational programs.

That is cultured stone and will find the brand and name this week for everybody. Real mountain rocks are harder to put together and they are heavier too.

Incredible! You're making one beautiful set up there! You'll have to charge admission to your store, cause people will think your the new 'public aquarium' with a tank that big :)
Thanks for sharing and keep the great pics comming!

this will be one beautiful set up when your done with it. i love the stone work. energy has his tank done if stone and it looks awesome that way.

I have always pictured a nice tank in a stone wall. If it was in wall aquarium I would've gone with natural mountal rocks even if they are a little more work. These rocks that are on the wall now look real to the point that people who see it ask if they are real. Before putting them on the wall they look like they are man made but after putting them up next to each other they look nice. They are more expensive than real rocks but we had to have in mind the weight of the whole thing and specially the top part.

Is any weight from the top being transfered to the glass, or is the 4 corner posts supposed to hold up the top by themselves? Seems like a lot of weight resting on a small area.

First we wanted to drop lines from the I Beams of the building to hold some weight and then we decided to rest the weight on the stand so the hood will have a support on three corners of the tank and it also covers the edges and silicon. One corner already will be support by the wall. Nothing is resting on the tank and even if there is a little weight on it I would say is ok but I rather not to take a chance.
