125 build

Well today I noticed and realized that after losing quite a few corals due to bleaching why the rtn is happening. It was cause of poor water flow under sized power heads.

Ya it is and I know my problems are cause by not having the proper light and poor flow, which I hope to correct here soon.

It's been while since I have posted, been busy. So I've been battling cyanobacteria lately, which I believe is starting to clear up.

Also I've finally got a descent amount of flow in the tank. I just picked up two eco tech mp40 quiet drive power heads, which I hesitated I'm due to the price. I couldn't get over the fact they were over $300 a piece but after talking to someone at aquarium arts and then he took the time to show me some of features I decideddecided to pick up. The big fact for me was that when I talked to this individual at aquarium arts he didn't try to sell me he told me the pros and cons about the eco tech and the tunze power heads. That's what did it for me.

I'll post some new pictures soon.

I know I haven't post on here in a while been busy with work and my new position that I got a promotion to which has been taking up a lot of my time. I have lost a lot of my corals due to not having the time to maintain my tank. I have a frog spawn and a rainbow monti left and a green style. I know my cal, mg, alk was super low so I didn't even bother testing. Instead I did a 52 gal wc due to the fact it had been almost two months since I have done a wc. I also have a outbreak of green hair algae. So now my plan was to do a aggressive wc to replenish everything in the tank as well as work on get rid of the hair algae with algaefix. And some dosing pumps so this don't happen to me again. But thats my update. I know I did lose some of my clean up crew but I'm unsure what exactly I lost right now.

Right now my main focus is getting everything back to normal and running smoothly. I'm embarrassed at what my tank looks like right now or I would post pictures.

The TDS for the water you use to create salt water should be 0.

It is impossible to measure the TDS of Salt Water, as the salt and electrolytes in salt water are all "dissolved solids". I read a Randy Holmes-Farley article a while back that discussed what that number is, but cannot remember it.

Typically 35,000 to 45,000 ppm

Awesome build, really enjoyed the thread until you hit the classic reefer wall and stopped maintaining properly. Happens to all of us (usually multiple times). Hope you get everything sorted soon.

I wanted to say two things - really nice job going at a pace that worked for you during the build, learning and getting it together.

Spectrapure once again was beyond classy in hooking you up. We are super lucky to have them local and I wanted to publicly give them a shout out for going above and beyond.

Thank you, I have started doing w/c this weekend. I did a 52 gal w/c. Cleaned my skimmer and tank really well and scrapped all the hair algae and cynobacteria algae off my walls and in my sump. I have light on its way as well. So hopefully everything will start to turn around. I also changed salts to fritz pro salt.

So I'll just do w/c and hope things get better.

I took some pictures yesterday of my tank, which I'm a little embarrassed by cause after a year I really have nothing to show for it. However it's my own fault.

Over the weekend I fixed my overflow. I got tired of not having my waterline where it needed to be. So I added some black acrylic pieces to my overflow due to someone not knowing how deep to cut the teeth.

Added a ice cap doser and a shelf for the doser to dose no3/po4 -X so I can start getting rid of my hair algae outbreak which is due to poor maintenance on my part.

The I decided to redo my power center and re label everything to make things easier on me.

So last night I took some more pictures of the tank after working on it all afternoon.

So yesterday my pieces for my reef octopus nwb200 arrived. I modified a few things on the skimmer.

First I got rid of the twist pipe. I replace it with a stand gate valve. Next I added a silencer and bracket to hang the silencer.

I also had to replace the hose for the silencer.
