I looking into getting better lighting
After a long talk with will and tony at epic ocean's they suggested the mix lighting with t5 and led combo. I was also shown the effects that it will have on the tank with more coverage less shadowing.
Now the next part has so many opinions on it
Leds are great and can save money in the long wrong, however I do believe leds and still very new the aquarium world and have fully gotten everything worked a out. I was caught up in the hype with my lfs ( not epic ocean's ) and didn't know what was best and what was not. I have a hydra 52 as I've stated a few times before. And I'm not for these new school leds to many factors and variations with the settings. To me its not user friendly at all. So do to all my troubles with leds I decided to go with my mix lighting. Now don't get me wrong I was for leds and saving me who isnt. But when I have to sit there and rack my brain trying to figure out what intensity I should have each color it becomes overwhelming.
I did a lot of thinking over this matter especially when I decided to do this build with the 125. Ultimately I decided I would still with old school t5 and have heard a lot of success with t5 and leds mix combo.
I hope I haven't confused you at all. I have read up a lot on leds, leds and t5, mh, and t5.
Yes you can get the same growth with leds that you can with t5 but it can take time to achieve. So say t5 is the way to go others say mh, or even leds. Its very opinionated at this day in age. I think in years to come leds will get better and they can be unlimited ends that can be achieve with coral growth and color factors.
However like I said this is a very opinionated subjects and can be touch at times depending on you talk to cause some swear up and down with leds. So before you decided on upgrade/ changing your lighting system for your tank, take the time and do the research. Read the reviews, studies and even the forums on leds as well as specific leds systems. Reasarch the comparison between all options. Then decided. But in the end regardless of what anyone tells you on which is better or worse. Ultimately you are the one who has to live with the choice on what you get and look at it daily as it sits over your tank. No body else.
Good luck.
P.s. I really hope I didn't confuse you or lose you in what I was trying to say.
