135 gallon SPS tank from the Philippines

excellent tank and great lighting. i always enjoy seeing reefers try to help advance things in this industry.

nice tank!i like it!

are you happy with resun wavemaker?
i'm thinking of it at the moment

Not at all. Flow is very linear, even after how much i fiddle with the controller. there is little to no vacuum effect on its input sides and bottom. It is very cheap though. I think the Sunsun on the right is much more effective but i only run it 15min each hour, as it gets quite warm when it runs and my thermometer doesn't like it at all.:lol2: I'd better go back to CA and get me some good gear co'z the dealers of tunze, eco-tech, etc. here are charging an arm and leg for those pumps.:mixed:

thanks menthol you prevented a small disaster from what you say!
ahhh why do vortechs have to be sooo expensive!

oh and i still like your tank...lol

Okay, here's what i've called the "Watanabe Disaster. I made my tank her home past couple of months. Thinking she was "reef safe" (everbody is saying so), i gladly oblidged myself to have her since she is so beautiful. She is very pretty indeed until she started doing this....

Well at first, it was okay because she was only nipping on two colonies and a frag, and the acros does not seem to mind it at all as they were still growing. Then one day i noticed that most of my colonies are not polyp'ing up too much, no more, because of too much pecking done by her.

When i've decided i'd had enough of her, it did not prove to be an easy task to catch the little devil at all. I've tried everything from fish traps to spear guns, nothing worked. I was desperate and tired so I tried to take (ruin) my rockwork out to as much as i could to net her. I knew from the beginning and through experience that this was a very BAD idea, and again, it proved it was. I lost about 5 colonies of acros, 2 montis, and a lot of ricordeas. I am very mad at myself, i've killed more than she did, and my prize for all these.... she's still in there!

My tank after the "Watanabe Disaster".

Good thing i still have my frags. Time to grow them again.

Somehow your tank still looks amazing after the "disaster" lol

Good luck on the recovery! I can only imagine what it will look like after =O

Thanks guys!

@drdoolittle - Just PM me the links to the photos or email me at mentholr @ yahoo, PLEASE!. those photos would be super nice, i would really appreciate it!

@scuba guy ron - My LED fixture was greatly inspired by RC's very own, Soundwave. I'm pretty sure you have already come across his thread about his DIY BUILD of his LED fixture. Only difference was that i used 36 Cree XR-E Q5 white's and 36 Cree XR-E Q5 blue bulbs. Here are some photos I took back then:

did you use lenses for leds? If yes of wich kind?

wow, impressive. I know that's really humid back home. You don't use chiller in that? I know it's been a long time, but can you post recent pics so we'll know if LED really had an impact on SPS growth and coloration? Thanks..

I love this tank especially the variety of color, shape and texture. I love the look of the mix of sps, lps and softies. I had a couple of questions about this tank.....

Why did you decide to remove the softies? I'm considering adding some softies to the rockwork with my sps but I'm curious if I should due to taking over the rock or killing the sps.

What is the beautiful purple gorg in the middle of this photo?

Did you have sucesss scraping or pruning back your softies? If so, what worked for that?

Thank you, Doug

and then here are some recent photos.....

There are still a lot (they grow like weeds) of softies in there but i've been pruning and scraping (fragging of course) most of it. Ultimately, it will be an SPS tank with some LPS.

Equipments that i use would just be a skimmer and a 30gal. sump, plus a couple of China wavemakers of course.

I hope we can get more colorful specimens of sps like you guys abroad have, coral collection are extremely illegal here. We've got all sorts of colorful and extravagant corals here in our oceans too but we all like to keep it there, hehe.

Later![/QUOTE]
