150G Build By PMG

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Would it be too bold to ask for a visit ? I'm sure there are many of us who would love to see your setup.

I would be more than happy to have guest's over. I still have a few things to organize a bit more before I'm satisfied with the set-up, but shoot me a PM if your going to be in the area.

Tank Update:

Tank Update:

Just a quick update on the progress of the tank.
So far so good. Everything is in good health and showing steady growth.
In the last month I've added four Lyretail Anthias, a 5" Derasa clam, and a few nice encrusting monti's that I picked up from Aerius007.

I've also started my future frag tank project. The tank will be a drilled 40G breeder with most likely a 40G sump. I've just recently built the stand, but still need to apply the finish to match the other stands. The size of the stand top should allow me to upgrade to a 2' X 4' tank if the need arises.

I would post a FTS, but I'm still having trouble learning my new camera, and haven't been able to get a shot worth posting that shows the true appearance.

That is a beautiful set up I can't wait to see more!!!!
Thank You!

I was messing with my new camera tonight and was able to get a half decent FTS under 10k Ushio MH and T5 actinic as supplements. Still trying to get a good actinic only shot, but I haven't had much luck yet.

New Bulbs!

New Bulbs!

Over the last few weeks I've had the opportunity to view a few outstanding tanks along with the lighting combination's associated with them, and decided to make a change to my own lighting.

For the last nine months I've been running (2) 250w Ushio SE 10k's supplemented with (4) T5 Super Actinics. I didn't feel that the combination was a bad look, but I felt the lighting combo needed more blue.

This past weekend I picked up (2) Ushio 250w SE 20k's and swapped one of the T5 Super Actinics with a Fiji Purple.

Well, I got the look I was after. It added plenty of blue to the tank, but not too much in my opinion. I'm very satisfied with the new 20k bulbs thus far. Changing to 20k's was a drastic change. However, the most noticeable improvement was adding the Fiji Purple bulb. The bulb really made the reds, pinks, and purples "Pop". In fact, I prefer the look when the MH's are off.

I don't have a way to take PAR readings at the moment, but I'm sure it has dropped considerably from running the 10k's, and I'll have to make adjustments to my light cycle accordingly over the next month.

I'm very satisfied with my decision to switch the bulbs, and only wish I could get a decent picture to post showing the new look. However I've yet to figure out this new camera and I'm having trouble getting it to accept a white balance setting that is so far off the norm. I'll have to start hitting the photography forum, or just give up and have someone else that knows what they're doing shot my tank.

Other than the lighting, I haven't made any other drastic changes to the tank, But plan on upgrading to a more consistent re-circulating skimmer in the near future. I may also swap my MP40's out for two Tunze 6105's, and move the Vortechs to my "in process" frag tank that I haven't done much work on lately.

With the C-Bus swap coming up, It's time to set the coral QT back up, and get ready for the new additions. Looks like it's going to be another great swap!

Thanks for looking.

It's been three months since my last update, and I've made some significant changes to both the system as well as the live stock.

The two biggest changes I made to the system were the replacement of the powerheads and protein skimmer. I replaced my (2) Vortechs with a pair of Tunze 6105's and a 7096 controller, and I must say I'm very impressed thus far.
The PM Bullet III skimmer was replaced with a Super Reef Octopus XP 2000 EXT external cone, and with a little over a month gone by with the new skimmer has been an excellent performer, and has been a breeze when it comes to maintenance.

As for live stock, I have added some nice Zoanthids to my collection as well as a few nice frags of SPS.

A few shots of some of the new Zoanthids.

I wish I could get polyp extension like that..everything has really colored up. Very nice. What do you like more about the tunzes over the vortechs?
I love tha Tomini....I had one go awol on one trip out of town. I miss it.

Thank You.

What do you like more about the tunzes over the vortechs?

Reliability (at least so far). I didn't have much luck with the Vortechs.

I also like the ability to direct the flow of the Tunze's, and the fact that I can customize the program for the 7096 controller.

very nice set up, looks like you have thought this out very well can't wait to see what you do inside the tank next keep us updated looks good so far
