did you add the sand yesterday or today?

Any issues with the RW8's in there with the sand storm?

We added the sand yesterday, picture was taken yesterday. I've turned off the RW8s to help the silt settle. It will go faster when we get the sump in from Reef Dynamics so I can hook up a filter sock. Hoping we can see enough to add the rock tomorrow.

Tank looks great! I moved to the area not too long ago and I am getting the itch to start a reef tank again. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the tank and the stand cost? Looks like it is going to be a great build thread!

Well, I don't have any idea. Titan Aquatic Exhibits donated the tank and their partner company B&B Enterprises made and donated the stand.

There are a lot of great deals for used tanks and stands all the time on the forum and the arizona reef facebook groups. You can PM me for info on those if you want.

It was very cool of them to donate the tank and the stand! GL with the setup. hopefully I can donate some frag in the future!

That would be great. We should have a pretty accelerated cycle with Life Rock, Cycled Rock, Live Rock, and Live Sand. Dosed Ammonium Chloride up to 2.5ppm today, we'll see how it goes from here! Sorry about the giant image, can't resize it easily on this iPad

I know it's been said many times already, but where were the teachers like you when I was in school?

You, and your students, are doing an awesome job on the tank!

Thanks John. I'm happy to provide the opportunity for my students and I'm glad they are interested. The big tank has been a great addition to our school as all of the students get to see it, instead of just my students. It also garners a lot of attention from the teachers and administration!

I'm considering a touch tank in the fall, probably in my classroom for now. I'd like to have cucumbers, horseshoe crabs, hermits, urchins, etc that the students can carefully interact with. We'll see how that goes.

I'm also planning a marine planted tank with seaweed, macro algae, and mangroves etc. Also like to have a planted freshwater tank to diversify the classroom a little bit.

We've been very fortunate to get donated items, tax donations and support from the Arizona Department of Education through the 21st Century Grant.

Yeah, they have grown a lot. They nip a bit but overall they haven't killed each other, even when one was quite a bit smaller. They have been together for over a year now between my tank and the school tank.

Even the new Yellow tang is becoming a fatty like the sailfin

Annual updates with pictures. Set up the great light that Jeff Porter donated. A number of newer leather corals that were donated as well.

Looks great. I bet the students really look forward to time with the aquariums and marine biology. Keep up the great work! JP
