& all this from a self-proclaimed 'aquatics specialist' with no saltwater experience, in charge of the reef dept. at Petco...Good luck long term in this hobby (& your job). You're going to need it if you don't quit being so argumentative & start listening to good, sound advice from folks with more experience than you trying to steer you in the right direction.

wow... you know what that needs more dots. theis is crazy i read every singel post on here. i dont know why some people are still bothering. my tank will be a year old in a week. i learned everything i know from the great people on this site you will never say that because how how fast you have goon with this. you have some of the best people on this site here trying to help you. you probaly havent even sarted a cycal yet, if you even know what that is. i know you said earlyer that you had readings of 1 -3 ppm of ammonia. thats crazy. you know WHEN that nem diesthey release toxins. i would love to see this diyne nem.

i dont know what to say....

I just wanted to get a good hardy crew set up that will last me until my tank has aged a bit, that way I will know that my parameters are good enough for the more sensitive corals, flame angel, and long tentacled anenome.
You were going to use them like a canary in a coal mine? They have test kits for that which are much more accurate and don't require you to play with the lives of living creatures.

And I thought I was rushing it a little. This is a complete waste, if you want advice and someone gives it to you... Use it! What part of SLOW DOWN don't you understand? Why are you laughing about it? Obviously by slow down they mean get rid of your live stock and let your tank cycle. Use a test kit instead of the stated above "canary in a coal mine". The normal way people do it is normal because it works better than anything else. You stated above that you didn't take the normal path, yet here we are trying to send you back from the road of fail to that fork in the road you first started at and send you down the road of fun and success. Stop ingnoring all these experienced aquarists and grow up by taking the responsibility of a home aquarist. Otherwise you are just a slick of oil in the gulf.

Assuming this is legit (which is very difficult at this point)...

You have problems and no one is giving you a definitive answer to what exactly you need to do. The problem is, there are no definitive answers beyond time, patience, and education. So far you're not exhibiting any of these.

Here's what I would do. There's a fairly long podcast series about reefing by a guy named Rob Weatherly, do a search for it. It's not a definitive reef keeping guide, and I'll ruin the ending for you by telling you the guy loses his whole system in a crash. Listen to the whole series, every minute of it; it'll probably take you a couple months. You won't be a reef expert by any means at the end, but you will have a system that's had a couple months to stabilize its cycle and hopefully you'll come back with more questions and fewer problems.

I just cant believe what im reading here, you are the aquatics specialist at a major corporation and you come on here asking for advice knowingly that every step you are taking in reef keeping is very far from that of the norm....I just cant believe the impatience you have. I saw the crap on the counter of my LFS, it said completely cycle your tank in 13 min. I laughed and then asked the owner (my friend) if this stuff was legit? He said "Hell no, I would never recommended it to any one, (so why do you stock it?) but thats not going to stop people from buying it." Im sorry but it sounds like you fall into the category of one of these people. I am not a professional reef keeper by anymeans, but one thing i do know is I have alot of patience, and that along with a good amount of money, lol, will really reward you in this hobby. Like the other said just slow down and read read read! Its hard to believe you have a petco setup the way you do, people are going to give you a tough time on here for storing tangs in 10 gallon tank, thats just preposterous!
