175w new ballast not firing bulb

Hey Jeremy,

I just bought the Icecap 175w new style ballast and ballast enclosure box. After I got the system connected to my PFO MH/PC pendant I tested it out. The bulb a new 175w 10k XM fires every once in awhile, but not every time. Isn't it supposed to fire EVERY time the switch on the ballast enclosure is swiched on?

I have tried a different bulb a 175w AB 10k and am getting the same results. I have to flip the switch off and on 4-5 times, or unplug the ballast box to get it to fire.

Do you think this is a problem with the ballast, switch, or ?????

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Bob,

How long are you letting the switch stay in the on position? Try turning the ballast on, and letting it run for a couple hours without touching the setup. See if the XM lights up. If it does light up, let it burn for a couple hours to burn in. Then flip it off, let is set for about 30-45 mins, then flip it on again, you shouldn't have any problems after that.

Yes, I guess I figured it would just start up instantly. If I turn it on and leave it alone it does fire after a few minutes. I was turning it on and off, on and off and couldn't figure out why it didn't fire. I will burn the bulb in as you suggest.
