Did you do any research on how many holes are in the back of the tank and how many it could handle?
I am no expert and I have no idea but would think eight is a lot.
Is that structuraly OK to do?
I have a 180 as well and have debated the drilling of the tank, A question I always have is how many is too many.
I think he will be fine. the holes are spaced out far from each other. I drilled 6 in the back of my 120 with no troubles. My tank has been up and running for over two years now.
Nice work Dansin! I look forward to seeing how you scape that tank with all the plumbing in there.

By all means Nicely done. I did not mean to imply otherwise. Just curious as to how many is too many. Thanks for the clarification.

BTW Nice Tank.

Thanks everyone. I didn't do any research on drilling the tank but i have looked at some on the web. and no one seems to have had any problems. Before i purchased the tank at the pet store i told them what i wanted to do, and they gave me a quote from all glass to drill all the holes and all glass never said there would be a problem. They wanted 50.00 a hole so i was not sure if i was going to drill it or not just because of the cost. Then i talked to one of my friends that had drilled his 120 with 8 holes like FFrankie did and he has had it set up for over 1 year now and has had no problems,so i went and bought a bit and and didn't drill any holes because i was scared that i would brake the glass. Then one day i came home from work and started drilling. I did 2 holes a day until they were finished. I was releaved no cracks. I will start to fill the tank this afternoon and start the closed loop tonight. I will transfer some things on sunday into the new tank and within 2 weekends have everything in the tank. I still need to make my light hood that will be part of my next week project. I will post somemore picture when i start filling the tank. Thanks again everyone.

Dansin
That is some serious plumbing you got going on there!! Your oceans motion, pump and flexible pvc looks like a sentinel from the Matrix!!

I think the only thing i would have done different was to drill two holes for the pump intake. I did this for my closed loop. The reason for this is encase a fish or anemone or something gets stuck on one the other will make up for the loss in draw. Having two also makes less draw on the intake making it easier for fish to brake free or not get stuck at all.
Because you have not filled the tank yet you still have time to make this change if you care too. If not I still think you did a bang up job of it!

Good suggestion. Couldn't you accomplish the same thing by having a T inside the tank, splitting the intake in two. For a bottom plumbed tank, that could be easily hidden. For the closed loop, you would have to hide the intake and plumbing behind some rocks.

Well i have the water in the tank just trying to get the salinity and temp. up. Tanya72806 i have the closed loop runnung now and i don't think i will have a problem with the sand at all. I think i might have to get a bigger pump. To me it feels like there isn't enough flow but i don't have the sand in it yet. I will put it in on sunday morning with some of the live rock. Triunfo there is a lot of pipe there it looks like a octopus when your standing next to it. FFrankie i was going to drill 2 holes but when i talked to Paul at ocean motion he said to splt it for the same reason you and Los were talking about. I will have new pictures on sunday. Thanks again Everyone.

Ok it has been 10 days i have been so busy with the children and putting the tank together that i haven't had enough time to get on line with some pictures of the tank up and running. Here are some pictures the tank running and a short video clip. I also have to install my cal. reactor, refuge, frag tank, and i have to make the light hood to. I just put together 2-400 watt. mh. with 10 ks and 2 atinics, with 2-super attinics just hanging over the tank for now. I also have extension cords running the system to. I'm hoping to get the electric fininshed this weekend.

This was after a couple of hours of filling the tank.
