Me and a friend finished this up today.
-40 long glass aquarium
-two 24x18 sheets of acrylic
-two tubes of aquarium safe silicone
-skil saw
-lots of paper towels

only took about an hour and a half but I'm happy with the outcome.

note to self: wear rubber gloves next time, this water proof silicone is a pain to get off your hands - washing them isn't really an option i found out.

Got the tank moved over the weekend have just been really busy with work and in mu free time while my sons not awake ive been tweaking my aquascape and toying with the settings on the vortechs, trying to find somethin that works well for my needs. Will post pictures tomorrow morning.

I'm gonna follow along because I'm building a 210g peninsula... I'm curious about your sump. I think you're going to have a bit of a problem with the tall divider right next to the small.. Acrylic doesn't bond well to silicon and the pressure of all that water on 1 side, and not much on the other to equalize, you may get some pretty significant bowing...

Here are some sump photos. Still need to pick up an ro/di unit and a ATO but for now I'm buying my top off water form my lfs and dumping the old fashion way. My skimmer has been going nuts since the move haven't been able to put my collection cup on yet hoping it mellows out soon.

The water level will be pretty consistent on both sides of the taller piece that controls the water lvl through the sump and the water lvl for the returns.

This is my 3rd sump build like this and my friend is join on his 5th or 6th and neither of us have had any problems with bowing. It is a very cheap alternative to buying one pre made and seems to work well for me and my friend. Thanks for following along everyone. Ill try and keep it interesting!

Gotcha.. I always build my own sumps too so I'm right there in with you.. I think the pics just didn't show it well enough and I didn't know you had water running in it already.. I've done a sump with acrylic baffles and had problems with bowing.. Perhaps to thin acrylic.. Anyhow, looks good! How are out liking the vortechs on 1 side only like that?

~Jon~

haha in that last pic, you mite wanna top off brotha lol......nice looking tank..center overflow arent seen to much

It's cool and that may have been the issue. I think it's 1/4 inch acrylic and I got it from lowes. 22.99$ for a 24"x18" piece. Not too expensive. I really like being able to make it to fit my needs.

Yeah I'm planning on buying a to unit and gettin a top off unit soon. I really like the center overflow much better than havin a tank against a wall. The viewing perspective is much better :) thanks glad u like it.

And I'm not super sure how I'm liking them on one end yet. Only been a few days and been through a few settings and not too much flow at the far end. They did create about a one inch wave in auto tune tho which was cool. Other than a lil loud I'm likin em so far might move em around a bit.

Thanks! The great feedback is awesome! The silicone takes an extremely steady hand and lots of patience. I agree my wife chose the colors I'm just the guy doin the labor!

Joe.

do you have a stock list made up?

I do but there are a lot of what ifs I'm it. I currently have,

1. Yellow tang.
2. Powder blue tang.
3. Green wrasse.
4. Green bird wrasse.
5. 2 green chromis.
6. Banded hawkish.
7. Lawn mower blenny.

I wanna add/ trade these.

1. Trade powder blue for an Achilles or a sohal.
( found a six" sohal on Craigslist for a great price
And not too far away but pondering on it.) :headwally:
2. 3 lyrtail anthias. (1male 2female)
3. 3 ignitus anthias. (Same)

The wrasses are beautiful fish but they are my wife's choice I would like different ones but gotta keep her happy. Happy wife= happy life :) haha

Would much rather have a flame wrasse and mystery wrasse.
