180 Reef Upgrade

Well I think I finished most of the things with the tank now even the doors finally lol. Only things that are left to do -
- mount some sort of light inside the sump to have some light source while the chaeto LEDs are off
- add the acrylic shields to the DIY fixtures, need to get some 4" bolts for that
- finish lighting, still few weeks before I will receive the units I have ordered, but should be quick and easy install once I get them

Got BRS Lab grade pH probe few days ago. Here is the comparison of the regular Apex one and the lab grade (pHR - regular, pHL - lab grade).

Both were calibrated few days ago, regular drifted up in readings pretty quick.

Although other than the minor drift up you can see that both probes follow pretty much the same graph profile with just a minor variations in "reaction times".

So at least in short term there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two probes. Will see how they will hold up over time.

The lights finally arrived yesterday, although they are missing 90 degree optics I have requested. I have added them to the tank anyways, just running them at higher %s for now, hopefully won't be too long before I get the optics to set it up properly.

You are doing a fantastic job, your tank, corals, and fish look very happy!
Like where the tank is going, looking forward to the future updates...
Regards,

Been a while since last video, so decided to make one today. The usual shots from the front side of the tank followed by a new perspective from the inside of the tank with underwater camera :)

Algae outbreak that I've been having ever since the upgrade is still going on to some degree although brown haze has lifted at this point and things are slowly getting better. Corals never seem to mind it all, but all of the snails did die off, so will have to replace them at some point. Not sure if it's safe for them as of yet though.

Recently added some new equipment to the system - two Foscams for a little better remote monitoring than an old cellphone allows (pan/tilt etc) and another 8 outlet bar for the Apex. Now waiting for those gyre powerheads to come out :)

Your tank is VERY impressive! Great job on everything, especially all of the DIY components!

Could you post some details about the LED lighting you have - specs, where you got them, what kind of schedule you have them on, etc?

Thanks!

Some live feeds :) Tank one is somewhat pointless with all the blue light though. Wish these foscams had better white balance options.

Yep, being tall it help to have a higher stand :)

Changed my sump lighting today. Switched from Cree XM-L U2 leds to a mix of red/royal blue/hyper violet/neutral white. Looks a little better and will hopefully be more beneficial to growing macro algae.
