Hey Terry you should fine a better way to lower the phosphate than using rowa. A lof tank have a problem when they change out the rowa too much or too fast. Using the zeo rock to reduce ammonia is a better way. You don't have to go full blown zeovit but by using the zeorock to absorb ammonia before it can break down to nitrate and phosphate. Another way to lower phosphate is to skim aggressive and more frequent water change in small amount. You might think I'm nut but I change 5gal everyday. It took me a mere 4 min.....:-)

Hey Anthony. Very true about the phosphate reactors. I've read stories of SPS crashes after chaning out the media. I also have a 18g fuge.

Tell me more about the zeo rock and what equpiment I need to run it. I don't have much room under my stand for more equipment.

You change 5g water a day? OF COURSE I BELIEVE IT! I can't do it, cuz some of us go to work, YOU KNOW?!?!:D

Are you related to Dudester?
 No, we're not related, but we are buds and John has helped me immensely with my previous tank as well as my current system. Heed his advice, he knows what he's talking about.

As for the ZEOvit rocks, here's all you would need to use it.

The reactor should sit in the return chamber of your sump, unless you have room under your stand to run it externally.

LOL, I love how you bolded the word "related". OK, buds it is! I figured you guys knew each other somehow!

I have room inside my sump....that's the reason why I don't have anymore room in my stand! I made my sump too big. :D

Anyway, is this reactor made specific for the zeo rocks? Or could I buy any type of media reactor?

I know NOTHING about the zeovit system. Can you tell me more what adding this will do for me? Based on what Anthony says, it seems like this piece of equipment can replace my phosban reactors and fuge??

It also looks like I'm just running my sumps water through these rocks, and then returning the effluent into the sump. is there a need for CO2 infusion, controllers, etc?

ZEOvit rocks, called zeoliths, adsorb ammonia in exchange for other positively charged elements, like sodium and potassium. By removing the ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are not produced, thereby providing a "nutrient poor" environment. You are correct in that no phosphate-removing media and no refugium is required. In fact, refugia are doomed to fail in a zeovit system since there are not enough nutrients to support macroalgae growth. The media reactor is specific in that there is a perforated platform upon which the zeoliths sit, and this is connected to a PVC rod that is raised and lowered daily to "stir" the rocks. This releases a material called "mulm" which feeds corals, and it exposes new surface area on the rocks for them to do their job. The reactor only needs a feed source (pump), no CO2 or controller other than a timer, as it's recommended to run on and off in 3 hr cycles. I hope that helps as a mini-primer to the zeovit method. If you want more information you can check out the zeovit forum at zeovit.com.

Not necessarily, Tanya, despite what is written in the zeovit guide. In a lightly stocked tank, running the reactor 24/7 may not be tolerated, and the 3 on/3 off schedule often continues for many months. I've been using ZEOvit for over 7 months now and I'm still 3/3.

i been using it for 6 years i was one of the origanal users. The 3on/3off is for the begining use which would last about 2 months

This isn't a contest of experience, Tanya, I'm just relaying the information that I've been given by the ZEO guru's, who have provided me with guidance since the beginning. I'm glad to know you've been using it for so long - I'll have to tap you for information as I go along. I'd ask you what you think of it, but I don't want to hijack this thread any more than we already have. Cheers!

lol thanks T

Listen Dude im onna post on your build check it out ;) im always here to help out youor anyone in any aspectthat I can feel free to always ask :)
