I have thought about the lights out approach, but I'd like to wait until I get my new RODI filters in first and see if that improves things before I do lights out. My hunch is that the old filters are causing this bloom.

What's your TDS reading?

don't know. I don't have a reliable TDS meter. I got one of those free ones a while back, but not sure how accurate it is.

whats the tiny black dot on the steak? a darth vader helmet? a horsefly?

fresh, UNGROUND, pepper :D

Hey T Bone. I used chemi clean once with success. I also doubled my water change volume and frequency at the time and the cyano never came back.

I had a 24 ounce Bone-in Delmonico at Abe & Louie's in Boston a few weeks ago. It was worth every bit of 45 bucks. I need me anudder one SOON.

Thanks fishtruck. Regarding the chemi-clean, the feedback I've recieved so far has either been 1) it hasn't caused issue or 2) don't use chemicals to cover up the underlying issue.

I''m beginning to wonder if the person who told me it can crash a tank has any experience with using it.

sounds awesome, i just found out cleveland has a ruths chris i havent been to a ruths chris in years but sizzling butter never gets old.:D

Yeah, it was a great steak. Though the best steak I've ever eaten was at an Italian place in Marblehead, MA called Il Moro. I was really surprised at how good it was. Too bad they shut down a coupe months before we moved nearby. :(

I have a friend, well they're a couple, who loves Ruth's Chris. They tell me it's the best steak they've ever had. I gotta give them a try sometime.

Anyone here ever try Texas Roadhouse? We've got two locations in MA. They're steak is pretty decent for $20.

Oh yeah... Cyano sucks! Carry on.

The best steak I've ever had was at the Steak House in Circus, Circus in Vegas. OMG, that steak was to die for. No more reef talk. Please keep this thread OT. It's the least we can do.:)

The best steak is the one I make with my super duper secret overnight marinade. just ask my wife, who hates steak, but asks me to cook it ;)

That IS IT, I cant take it anymore I am on my way to the Butcher, expect pics of beef from the heartland....

T-Bone Marinade automaticly excludes a steak from the running for best steak...:p

My marinade is pretty damn good too. My wife says so and she also hates steak... unless it's well-done and has absolutely no fat content. Hence it's gotta be the crappiest piece of meat you can find.

My mom's got a couple marinades including a teriyaki sauce that she had a patent on and sold in stores for a short while. Even I don't know how to make it. But I have an endless supply when I need it. :smokin:

Clayton NY huh? How's the weather out there? I certainly hope you're going to grill that steak outdoors?

Good point. It is his namesake. Yeah, better not mess with him.

Don't tell me she's got the patent on Yoshida's! You know what that stuff is? Or is that a west coast thing? :D

Have you guys tried Peter Luger's steak sauce? It's sold at lots of supermarkets on the East coast now... but it's very good. Well, not as good as the real place, but yeah...

You got me. It must be a west coast thang. Cuz all I've ever seen of Yoshida sauces is on the shelf in the market. Oh, there were some pretty cheesy commercials too.

My mom and aunt used to own a Korean and Japanese restaurant and three sushi bars many years ago. A local radio personality and my mom were promoting the sauces before she decided to leave the restaurant business. So the selling of the sauces stopped too. :(
