how come so many peoples complain about these units? and some swear to them.

Like any product, the most posts you'll typically see are going to be complaints. If every happy customer posted their experience, maybe we'd have a better idea of the ratio.

I bought one pump that was dead right out of the box. Never turned on. I got a replacement within mere days and it has worked perfectly from the time I plugged it in.

I don't mess with mine. They are on, and I never adjust them as they are set perfectly when I first install them. Every couple of months, I'll pull off the wet sides and clean them well, inspecting them for any wear or damage. Maybe I'm more careful? Maybe because I just use them without constantly tinkering they work well? Beats me. I don't really know how anyone can complain about them for what they do and how they do it.

Keep in mind I do not run them on high and doubt I ever will.

ok maybe half a page. maybe i exagerated a little.

so not running spell check just for exagerate.

whoops, It was Silicon Nights... sorry- They are suing Epic because they:

"failed to deliver versions of the licensed Unreal Engine 3 by its contractual deadline, resulting in demonstrable damage to the reputation of Silicon Knights and Too Human."

Vortechs- Yeah, I've been reading alot about problems with rusting magnets, wet-ends falling off, loud motors, etc.
just wondering how yours have been. I think I remember reading an article on your page about it..

which issues are you referring to? ue3 is licensed by dozens of developers and several highly reviewed and high grossing games have been released and even more are on the way.

We spend a great deal of time supporting our licensees. I personally respond to a large volume of support issues involving graphical quality, performance and content authoring.
btw electronic arts recently hugely expanded their ue3 licence http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52121

getting a game performing at a high frame rate on a specific console requires extensive 'debugging' of your content using the debugging tools available on that console. ue3 supports PC, XBox360 and PS3 so it is a generalized graphical pipeline capable of anything. each console is going to treat the same graphical load and gameplay scenario differently and the results need to be analyzed and the content tweaked.

transitioning to a new generation and learning completely new tools is tough for everybody. after a few years things tend to smooth out for a while until the next big jump.

melev and Concrete Reefer - I was working, my brathas, and still am!

cbui2 - I think I've finally nailed the flow.

p.s. Here's a news flash - you're a wise guy! :p

I wish I could comment because I have lots to say on that subject, but unfortunately I cannot. I can only once again say that plenty of games have shipped with no problems and many have done extremely well.

and some companies choose not to be included in our shared developer network :( if you actually read the response issued by our lawyers it clears up all confusion. we strongly maintain that the claims are completely unfounded. of course its a long dry read so I wouldn't expect anybody to actually read it. i just ask that you dont jump on the bandwagon of speculation, wait and let the outcome speak for itself :)

ive had mine for about a year now and have used both versions of the drivers.

they are great pumps that work just fine when set up properly, but the wetsides do require maintenance i am sending my wetside in soon there is a lil bit of rust on the magnet and the shaft is loose.

OMG Bart do you know where that came from? LOLZZZZLZLZLZ

that is from the Trailer park boys an uncensored low budget sitcom filmed in Halifax Nova scotia that is shot as Cops from the criminals perspective. Its My favorite show in the whole world, a bad episode of Trailer park boys is 2x funnier than a great episode of south park.

that is Randy and his gut, my female clownfish is named after him :) :)

Marc, how many do you have and what percentage would you say you run them at? You've got a 270, correct?

I've got a 280g reef with three pumps, two in Reefcrest and one in Lagoon. I'd say they are all set to 2/3 of their top flow.

Hmmm. At 2/3 huh? So with a 240, I don't need 5-6 VTs to keep up with Terry's flow rate logic? :p I was planning on three VTs. I've already got two. Or I was considering a Tunze 6201 or two.

The thing about flow is each tank is different and what they post on RC can almost be a competition. ;)

When people come over, they are amazed at the flow in my tank and how everything (that can move) is moving. When I look at it, it looks right to me. And when I recently did some math, it seems like I have 32x turnover in my display. I was counting each VorTech at 2000gph plus 3000gph from my returns. Maybe I'm off a bit, but it seems reasonably close.

i noticed the polyps responds to random flow and wave currents much better then strong currents. terry has tunze sponsors :D

I thought you held the Tunze record? :D

Makes sense. I visited a local reefer's house some months ago and he had a single penductor (not sure what pump) and a big Tunze on his SPS dominant 180, IIRC. His tank is flourishing to say the least.

How do you calculate flow from your return? Is it split between two nozzles?
