20L QT is not going to help u with all the tangs u're keeping Terry.... that's good for FW guppies only... :D :p

The main reason for the lack of an adequate sized QT tank is cuz I don't have a spot to put it. It has to be small enough for me to carry it and not need a stand.

That is going to be too many tangs for a tank your size, I'm afraid. I had six in my 280g for a long time, and it did a real number on my water parameters. Then again, if you throw enough stuff at the tank (Denitrifier, dosing vodka, etc), you can get away with it, but then there are space constraints that should not be overlooked.

I do understand the passion for many fish, and have seen that often from those that used to keep freshwater tanks. Adding a bunch of anthias, chromis, basslets, etc - you can get that feeling without creating issues.

i agree with marc i just read a interesting thread by zoom about his sadness over losing 2 large tangs because of inadequate space.

his vlamingi tang killed itself swimming too fast into a rock due to lack of space.

Terry, if you are going to throw down the gauntlet like that, you'll have to talk this through.

For example, if you were going to get 6 tiny hippos and plan to remove them in 12 months, that's not a big deal at all. However, if you are buying these tangs and planning to keep them for years, that's a problem. Tangs swim in nature, unlike those freshwater fish (arowanas) that seem to hover in space and do nothing until you drop in some food.

Terry's got a plan.. He will buy the fish small, let his wife get attached to them over a couple of years and when they get to the point where you have to get rid of them-

Tell her this- Honey, we can keep the fish only if I get a bigger Tank.... and ohh yeah sweety, I need a BK400 as well ;)

Another lesson we have all learned from Terry :) I hope the 300 keeps me off the makret for awhile but I will keep this tip in my pocket.

Where are you all finding the best price on the Tunze salt?

sorry to take the thread off topic Terry :D

Jeff, I don't think it's possible to get a group buy together on salt. The deal breaker is normally shipping fees ($12-17 per bag). The only way to get this stuff in at a somewhat reasonable price is to order a full pallet, which means all buyers need to be local. Your best bet is to get it going with your local club.
