2 blue gigs.

This is great. Hopefully you get it to live long term. I'll be paying closer attention to my gig and may be a get a smaller one for it as a companion.

Dug this up from 2007 posted in the anemone section...seems to be exactly what's happening here?
Yes, this is true for carpets (BTAs too).
All clownfish host anemones reproduce sexually by releasing sperm and (usually)eggs into the water.

In some cases the eggs remain inside the female and are fertilized and grow inside the female until little babies are released (S. gigantea). I don't think the babies of haddoni and mertensi develop inside the female, but I am not certain.

BTA's release planula larvae that then become anemones after they settle.

Maybe you will raise the. Very first Gigantea spawned in aquarium.

Yes! This is very exciting! Keep us updated.

Well, not very exciting to me. It happened, just like all the other tries. It let go. I came home to feed it in between jobs around lunch. Fed it. Came home around 4:30 it was still in the glass. Went down to get a picture of it after dinner, and it let go, it's gone. I got this pic this morning before I left. Last pic of it I got. Happens everytime. I'm disappointed to have this happen everytime. Tired of trying. I'm not set up for this. Sorry guys, next time I won't get you all hyped up. Someone else try.

Here's the last pic of it from today. I wish the color came out on camera better, but you can see the tip is colored, kind of.

Kind of bummed about this one. It seemed to be liking the feedings.

Do not give up. Rome wasn't built in one day. If you have time and if you are up for it try getting in touch with marine biologists that have background in anemone studies. I've reached out to a couple of professors in the last year about clownfishes. Their response was amazing. The stuff they do in the labs is insane. Good luck.

Back when I was cipro'ing a beautiful gig, on it's last exhale before I lost it, this is what came out.

Then, I figured that it is the same as what you have now, but I lost hope and was saddened over it, I don't remember if I ever posted this in the video/thread documenting it.

Please make it full screen, as you can see it much better.

Maybe try putting the next one in the glass and then the glass in a breeder net? Then if they release at least they would still be contained and you could see it they died or not. Maybe it's just normal for them to release to find a new spot to settle? Or maybe even rubber band a piece of netting or sieve material over the glass?

Tank is in transition state now. Sold 2 gigs 3 weeks ago, the original blue gig this thread was started with and a purple that was crowding the green. Here's a pic of where it is today, which will change again in the coming weeks. I got burned bad from the gigs when removing them 3+ weeks ago. No gloves, my right hand and arm were on fire for days, and I still get sick feeling every day from it, even though it's 3+ weeks later. They are definitely toxic, I've never had a reaction to gigs all these years like this.

Check out this fat tent on a purple. It's got tents growing out of the sides of it like it's an anemone of it's own.

Here's the 210. I'm going to be upsetting both tanks in the coming weeks/months, both are in need of major "tweaking" and cleaning. Overflows are all clogged from worm growth. The sand in both tanks has solidified. The rocks lift up with the sandbed as one. Time and funds may put the 75 in jeopardy of existence.

Mertens has decided to start to go for a walk. It's been a pain trying to get it to accept the same conditions as the gigs. It may go into the 75 by itself, not sure yet. It's not happy right now.

Side shot

One of my thoughts is, get all my gigs (that can fit) into the 210. I have a filter sock that I can clean all overflow water with. When time permits, I can take a filter sock out, turn it inside out, and give it a tank of it's own with a light for a few days and see if anything that resembles a gig appears. This won't happen fast, but still gives me an opportunity to look forward to something, the joy and fun of rehabbing gigs for me is over now.

Thanks for the 2 gigs. They are now the centerpiece of my tank. Still looking for another green one. If you ever get bored of your green, you know who to contact. :)

Are you still located in SoCal? I'm surprised you can't find a green gig. They're probably most common there, and from what I've seen/heard, they're also a lot cheaper. Although an established gig is priceless!

It is true that green gigs are common to see at LFS in SoCal, but as you said "an established gig is priceless!".:bounce2:

9 gigs in a 210

Bitter sweet. Duyhuynh has onbe of the original blues of this thread, and here's the other:

Here's the 75 now:

That blue got taken over by algae in the 75 and I let it go too long, then got a rock dropped on it, then got moved to the 210, then got sucked into the intake of my closed loop. It's pretty beat up, but it keeps moving. My nice "yellow" gig was originally placed in them middle of the tank, but moved quick to the underside of the big blue. A couple other bumps in the road, but I figure I'm better off turning up the flow and keeping away!

7 weeks later

I will wear gloves at all times now.

I'm at awe every time I see your tank. Those nems are massive. You don't like haddoni? Who would have thought a gig can do that much damage!

Here's when it first happened. Gosh, I can see my self my wrist got skinny.

The sting is NASTY. Looks like it gets worse over the course of weeks. I highly recommend the use of gloves to everyone.
