I just noticed last nite that my Deresa has 2 extra holes (that weren't there before) In it, they are in the fleshy part right below the exit syphon hole. They are almost egg shapped, and very cleanly cut. The clam doesn't seem to be bothered and is still opening up very wide. I haven't seen anything trying to eat or spear it. I can try to take some pictures tonight. what can it be?

I would have to assume the damage is from a predator, I don't know what inhabitants you have. It could also be an uninvited guest like a mantis shrimp.

i don't think it is a mantis, I have seen no carnage of any sort previously. Will they heal? It doesn't look fleshy they are rather small reltive to the clam.

an extra hole can be caused by stress. if this is the case, once the stress is removed, the clam will heal itself within a matter of days.

Hmm, well now that i think of it, it did do something odd, last week. It decided to let go of the rock it has been attached to for the past couple of months. Is that another sign of stress?
