Any suggestions for the best anemone to house them , or just any other ideas in general to keep them thriving comfortable:rollface: ( I had 4 carpets all in at the same time , each carpet died)

First, I would decide which pair of clowns you like best. 2 pairs are most likely end up being 1 pair.

As for what anemone, need to figure out why 4 "carpets" died in your tank before considering getting another anemone.

clownfish really dont need to host anemones and can do great with out them depends on its environment and tank mates and water. And being u lost so many carpets i would not think of any anemones.

Agreed.

Dying anemones can be an expensive loss for an aquarist, but they're even costlier for wild habitats and clownfish. They can also be a real PITA, especially if they're not doing well, so you'd be saving yourself a lot of aggravation. I'd get a nice toadstool instead--lots of clowns will use them as an anemone substitute and the corals usually do just fine with it.

Good luck!

I am going to disagree. It may take a while, but most percula complexy clowns, captive bred or not, will take to a BTA.....which these days can easily be found cloned from a captive specimen. So there is no need to give up on the anemone idea, and I wouldn't go with a soft coral either - it may seriously limit what else you can keep with it.

I do agree that continually buying animals that won't make is bad for your wallet and the ecosystems these animals come from - so avoid the carpets and try a BTA.

You're also going to be limited in what you can keep with a BTA; they may not release toxins like a sarcophyton, but they can sting other cnidarians, especially if they take to wandering.

But I completely agree with you that if the aquarist prepares carefully beforehand (tank conditions, research, etc), and if the BTA is captive-cloned, it's the perfect compromise for someone who still wants to keep an anemone.

I suggest separating your 2 pairs. IMO, that is asking for trouble. Platinums obviously arent cheap. Protect your investments!...Dont worry about an anemone. Your clowns will be okay without one.

If you are unsure of proper temperture ranges, I would not recomend you attempting to care for any animal that requires expert attention to water parms as a carpet does. I perfer to keep my systems running around 78 degrees. In a few monthes, when you gain experience and your system gains stability, purchase a captive cloned E. Quadricolor and ONE pair of clowns.

His tank is two years old.

How did you get those carpets, were they shipped to you?

IMO, you shouldn't keep carpets. They are one of the harder anemones to keep. If you want an easy, big, sand-bearing anemone choose some larger LTA. If you don't care if it is a sand-bearing anemones or not, choose a GBTA or RBTA (same thing, different color). I think you should be able to keep anemones, but carpets may not be the best choice. Do some research, and remember to take it slowly. Maybe add 1 LTA, and if it does well for a month add another, and continue until you have the number of LTA you want. I would suggest 4 at max, but 2-3 would be ideal. Good luck!

I consider even LTA's to be on the sensitive side.
78 is my temp.
I can not advise strongly enough to have only one pair in there, especially something as pricey as those platinums.

As said, seperate the clowns. If you leave them all together you will be left with 2 live ones and 2 dead bodies.

Id stay clear from anemones if i were you until you can figure whats up with your tank, Those seem to be haddonis and in comparison to other nems those are relatively easy to keep happy (in my opinion). Try softies.

What are you using for flow? all i see is that 1 pump in the corner

Nice looking tank you have there, but I agree with everyone else. Seperate those two clownfish species. If you must have both, set up a 20 gallon nano to house the other species.

i agree with saddle carpets tend to be easy to maintain, but there no need for anemones. clown do just as good with out them and if u have coral they may be at risk unless it a sand anemone but i would make sure the water is top notch and let sit for a couple months plus about the clown if u have a 75 gal thats good to house two pairs of clown but only if there paired and have there own side of the tank but than again this happen to most people that rush to put fish in there tanks but they should be ok in my opinion.

That's the first I've seen of the "midnights." Given what else is on the market, I figured they'd pop up eventually. Are they percula or ocellaris?

Also, I'm in agreement about keeping the pairs in separate tanks. If after hearing a number of people say the same thing you still insist on doing it; I'd be happy to kick you in the pills and take your wallet. It has pretty much the same overall effect.... It's expensive and it hurts.

Of course if you're female we can go for the "purple nurple" and stolen "purse" route instead.

Convinced yet? LOL
