200 gallon deep dimension build

Montipora setosa.

Likely from Nexenn who has great corals and is a stand up guy.

Agree with all the above. This is my monti setosa colony i had him tank sitting while I moved. It is probably close to 5 years old, has survived two crashes and been fragged off a ton of times.

Here are a few shots from this week. SPS are looking pretty happy. Got a few more (~ 15) to glue into the rockwork this weekend. Turbo snails and lawnmower blenny are slowly taking care of the algae. No real big advancements in the reef this week since the swap.

Tonight's update is a public service announcement: Always Quarantine.

Managed to get a terrible outbreak of ich in the tank. Caught half the fish and set up a 40g quarantine with cupramine. Gotta catch the other half tomorrow. Tank will be left fallow for at least 2.5 months, but probably January just to be safe.

On the bright side, petco has their $1/gallon sale going on right now and the wife gave me the go ahead to get 2 x 40 gallon breeder tanks. Only set 1 up so far...

Dang man, sorry to hear about the outbreak. It is nice that Petco runs those sales, I just wish they went up over 100g for the tank size :D
I hope all your fish make the trip and get better, good luck man.

Down from 12 fish to 7 over the last 48h. Lost all my tangs and foxface. Still need to catch 2 chromis, a 6 line wrasse and lawnmower blenny from the display.

The powder blue? Mine got me too, except I think mine had velvet. Time so set up my QT! Sorry to hear about that, hopefully you didn't lose them all. I lost one of my clowns, absolutely heartbreaking!

Curious, can the ich come in on the frags or do you think a fish came in with it?

Not sure. My guess is fish, but if you read through the forums, apparently you can get it either way.

Good news tonight: I finally caught the 6 line wrasse in my display using a trap. Finally starting fallow period.

Haven't updated in a while, but sometimes this hobby just kills you. Started losing a few smaller SPS and couldn't figure out why. All the normal things checked out fine. I dosed interceptor in case red bugs were the culprit (even though I didn't see any). Wiped out all my hermits, crabs and shrimp. Snails are fine. Didn't notice any benefit and small corals continued to decline. I added my 6 line wrasse back to the tank this last week in case I was dealing with AEFW in hopes he would get the situation under control.

Took a look with a flash light today while tanks were out and as suspected, I'm dealing with acro eating flat worms (AEFW). Not sure where I got them. Haven't purchased anything other than some snails and hermits since the frag swap, but my guess is that because I was running fallow due to ich (see above posts), they got out of control and started wreaking havoc OR I got a free swimming flat worm in the water from the inverts and it made its way into the tank.

I have looked into different treatment options and am planning to go with nuking the tank with KCl.

The plan is to dose 1# KCl per 50 gallons tank water and then perform a water change about 30 minutes after. Based on my capacity to make and hold water, probably will be daily water changes for 2-3 days. Observe and repeat in 2 weeks for a total of 3 treatments. I will probably add some bacteria to the tank after each treatment and overskim. Depending on any die off, I may or may not use filter socks. My pods and most of my CUC has already been killed by the interceptor and from what I've read, snails can survive this treatment.

Wish me luck...

Started the experiment. Tank dosed and immediately started seeing white specks floating around helplessly in the water column. Saw several flatworms releasing from a coral, but they were gone by the time i grabbed my camera. Polyps all retracted. Anemone closing up and zoas closed immediately. 5 minutes into treatment and there are still some FW crawling on the glass. Plan to let this continue for ~ 30 minutes and then do W/C.

I'll keeping specific notes on dosing, w/c, labs (K, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, salinity) and on some of my corals and how they respond with photo documentation on a couple that are easier to take pictures of. Will post a thread later on how this all turns out.

If you guys want to know anything or have any suggestions for this science fair project, let me know.

It's been 3 days since I nuked my tank for better or worse. Since then I have changed a total of 125 gallons (30, 25, 30, and 40 gallons). I lost my 6 line wrasse early on in the process. The snails went hiding during the treatment, but started roaming the tank again last night. RBTA is still alive. I lost 1 small coral that was already on its way out and 2 others that weren't looking great before the treatment are holding on for life. Its too early to tell on the coral that had eggs at the base of it. My PC rainbow colony that I'm taking photos of does not appear to have any more bite marks on it than 3 days ago. I am starting to see hints of polyp extension on some corals that haven't had PE in a long time.
