Haven't updated in a while, but sometimes this hobby just kills you. Started losing a few smaller SPS and couldn't figure out why. All the normal things checked out fine. I dosed interceptor in case red bugs were the culprit (even though I didn't see any). Wiped out all my hermits, crabs and shrimp. Snails are fine. Didn't notice any benefit and small corals continued to decline. I added my 6 line wrasse back to the tank this last week in case I was dealing with AEFW in hopes he would get the situation under control.
Took a look with a flash light today while tanks were out and as suspected, I'm dealing with acro eating flat worms (AEFW). Not sure where I got them. Haven't purchased anything other than some snails and hermits since the frag swap, but my guess is that because I was running fallow due to ich (see above posts), they got out of control and started wreaking havoc OR I got a free swimming flat worm in the water from the inverts and it made its way into the tank.
I have looked into different treatment options and am planning to go with nuking the tank with KCl.
The plan is to dose 1# KCl per 50 gallons tank water and then perform a water change about 30 minutes after. Based on my capacity to make and hold water, probably will be daily water changes for 2-3 days. Observe and repeat in 2 weeks for a total of 3 treatments. I will probably add some bacteria to the tank after each treatment and overskim. Depending on any die off, I may or may not use filter socks. My pods and most of my CUC has already been killed by the interceptor and from what I've read, snails can survive this treatment.
Wish me luck...
