200G AGE inwall with fishroom

That's 200G as in Gallons, not Grand or Gazillion or Googolplex $$$ though it may feel like a moneypit sometimes ...

I thought I'd start this as a new thread from here since the fish room is actually under construction now. I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the dough on the room, but I think it will be worth it. The plan has changed a little. The room is actually larger, around 5' x 12'. I have yet to order the tank, but there seems to be plenty of setup to do still and I will wait until precise opening dimensions are known for where the tank goes.

Very Nice! You won't regret the room. Although mine went considerably over budget, I don't regret it one bit.

Looks like a good start. That's in the garage, yes? How do you plan on keeping things cool in the texas heat?

The garage stays cooler than the outside. It seems the garage doors are insulated. An inwall AC will go over the door. This is the cheaper route. I was considering a mini-split AC, but that was much more than I had planned ...

There are also (quiet) bathroom exhaust fans in the ceiling of the fish room and in the ceiling of the garage pushing air into the attic.

While the room is being built I tried to figure out a good layout for the sump. Any input is always appreciated. I tried to incorporate a rock tower on the right back hand side behind the sump. I wanted a large refugium so that's there on the back left. Some space for equipment is in the middle.

The skimmer has an output with an elbow. I'm guessing that it's so skimmed water can be directed into the next chamber eliminating the possiblility that the water just having been skimmed is not reintroduced into the skimmer inlet.

So it's going over the door to the new room, right? You may need to build something to catch condensation and drain it away from dripping right over the door, but that should be too challenging. Just something to think about.

I'm looking at building something similar in a new home, and I'm leaning towards either a mini-split (if the stars line-up... I've got a lead with a buddy who works in refrigeration and is certified to install them) or the portable units... I'm not keen of the exhaust dumping into and then further heating my garage (these 105 degree temps have done that well enough on their own!).

That's right ... over the door to the new room. There's already a 1" PVC pipe built into the wall for that very purpose ... It will drain to the sink's drain nearby. A fellow reefer on MAAST mentioned a link that I'll repost here for a good deal on a mini-split if you're needing one in the near future.

Ridiculously nice polyp I found this weekend locally ... a [Solomon Islands?] palm tree clove ...

Well, I'm overdue to update this thread, but the fish room is basically finished. Nice counters and cabinets in there now. AC was just an inwall exhausting into the garage, but with garage and fishroom vents exhausting into the attic. I may reroute the fishroom exhaust to the outside instead of into the attic freespace to prevent moisture issues with the roof framing, but there should be continuous circulation and it is an enormous attic space because it's a 12/12 rise basically 45 degree roofline (and it's a big house).

I'm installing the RO/DI in there now and have to order some storage tanks for freshwater storage/topoff and for automated saltwater water changes daily. Anyone have recommendations? Residential freight is expensive!

Oh, and I ordered the AGE tank this week through Gabe locally at Gabes Fish and Exotic Pets and hopefully will have the CAD plans for it soon. That was a big step, though after having the fish room built, it doesn't seem so big.

I'll have to snap some pics tonight or tomorrow ...

Really like your fishroom! Sooo many shelves and cabinets. :D That's the biggest mistake I made in mine. You won't be sorry.
