2010's official OT URS bowhunting thread

kicked one up, not sure buck or doe, on my way into the stand this afternoon at 2:30. only other thing I saw was a coyote around 4:20 at 60 yards and through some heavy brush. my brother in law shot a five pointer second day and a buddy shot an 8 this morning. I'm not seeing anything though.

I have been hunting very hard for the past week. Stay patient boys, the rut is coming up.

I got this one today at around 3 30pm.

Excellent! I've been the most frustrated about is not being able to put in enough time. Took the week off to hunt but all I've tracked down is dirty diapers, playing Mr Mom.

Can't go till next Wednesday, so I'm forced to be patient. But at least the season IS HERE and that's what counts.

worst day ever! my wife shut my alarm off so I didn't get up early. decided to go anyway. saw some new scrapes. decided to use a drag and some code blue estrous. dragged past my stand and sprayed some scent in an old scrape. attached my bow to my tow rope and got in my climber. halfway up this tree an 8 comes out 10 yards from the scrape I just sprayed. he sees me and takes off. following him was another 8! ***??? he saw the first guy run off and decided to follow. anyway my hunt came to an early end because my special order replacement window came in and I had to install it to keep the dang landybugs out of the mancave/tank room.

I would've been and am usually in stand by 6-6:15. believe me I'm kicking myself. at least it's just starting.

I HATE morning hunts. Never know when to call it. Going out tomorrow afternoon, but the wind looks like it might be a little funky, so I may have to use a climber....

Just got access to another spot that has no other hunters. So I can bow, right thru gun season. I could stack em up, if my wife lets me go as often as I'd like.

Bummer of an outing Chris! I'm looking forward to seeing my spots after letting them chill for a few days. There should be a front moving thru in a day or two. I'm hoping, with the rain tonight and tomorrow, that the afternoon will see some action.

I can't wait to go out this weekend. I've been out of state for the last two weeks. I'm jonesing to get into a tree.

The rut should be coming up, and the front moving through may get everything moving.

I've gotten out both weekends and last Friday eve and have been lucky enough to have seen deer ea. time. No shooters yet. One thing to note...last Friday at last light I saw a bruiser come into the field. The next morning around 9 when I began to get restless, I climbed down from the ladder stand and took cover under a stout Oak. I have a nice big set of 8pt rattlin' antlers. I raked the leaves and broke some branches and banged on them for maybe 3 mins. I watched through the trees and saw a small basket rack coming my way. THEN, I heard something snap back behind me back towards my stand. There was a decent 6 pointer and a doe. The doe had seen me turn and was all alert. Once she bolted, (maybe 20 secs), he followed. Once they were gone I turned back and never saw the small original buck.

Anyways...point is they seem to be responding to some rattling, and I wasn't being bashful with them at all lol.

Good Luck!

Wind was all wrong tonight, but someone gas been hitting my mock scrape and made a bunch of rubs all around my stand. Some yahoos came driving through the field at dusk, presumably scouting. The right at sundown some hikers came through with their dogs and headed right back into the bedding area. Perfect.

2009 GMC Sierra died for 2nd time in weeks. Missed my Am hunt AGAIN. Dealer says its "all set". Last thing I want is to be out in some field and it dies again. Its a horrible feeling to not be able to trust your truck. A man should be able to do that. So......out it goes. Just finished making a deal on a 2011 Toyota Tundra crew Max Rock Warrior. Hopefully the rest of the season is unaffected by transportation issues, and I can get back to just sucking at hunting.

Posting from my treestand...chipmunks have me on edge already ...gonna be a good day.

all I did today was watch chip and dale chase each other back and forth. just needed pluto to make it a disney affair. not a thing otherwise. was in the tree at 6am and came down midday for a birthday party. back out at 2:30 to 6:30. very slow year.

OH Mark I want that same truck...NIIIICE!!!

Soo..I got in my ladder stand at a touch past 7. That appears to be my normal time this season but anyways. Started reading a book at 745 and at 8 a doe ran right up to my stand followed by a basket rack 4 or 6, followed by a panting 8 point. All 3 were from 5 yds to 20 yds away. I just slowly went for it and placed my book down on pack, grabbed bow off swivel arm hook thingy. The doe alerted and ran off into thicket the 8 took two bounds and stopped broadside at 28yds (rangefound after)....thwack! Didn't see my arrow hit so was worried but soon realized I double lunged it and was a complete pass through. He ran 60 yds.
