2010's official OT URS bowhunting thread

Justin, that's a great deer! Congrats!!!

I'm torn between sitting in this swirling wind and not blowing my stand. I think this week will bring some good fortune if I can get the time to get in there. Using my day off to get the new truck and I have a wedding next weekend....

I'm gonna get an ulcer before this is all over.

Nice work Justin. I'm jealous for sure!!!

Thx guys...sick of paying $80 for processing, so my friend who has always cut up his own deer, and I made short work of him yesterday. It wasn't that bad really!

I need to decide that soon. Last 2 I had euro'd, but the wife doesn't particularly care for it, so SHE mentioned a reg. head mount. I told her price and recoiled but she didn't really react one way or another lol. SO...idk. It is my biggest "bow buck."

Ha!! It's getting Euro'd. I figure I will have no problem knowing the right one to have a head mount done on, when the time comes.

Yeah ,I hear ya.Some of the best advice I ever got was to learn to cut and process myself. It is by far a better flavor when done right.I hate the "gamey"-taste you get done by the drop off processing places. Its easy as heck, once I learned how.trick to excellent flavor is get rid of the venison "fat"imo,IME every drop off site I went to over the years cuts it up like their cutting wood.
It would be interesting to converse differnt thought on this from the others here sometime.

Really nice buck and excellent shooting.Way to go.

Justin, nice shot and very nice buck.

I have not seen much action. I am really glad I shot my doe opening day, so I at least have some meat. Action is either slow or I am not in the right spot. Hard to tell.

looks like the rut is on. had a doe appear under my stand around 9am. she had a grunting buck in tow. unfortunately when I went to stand up she spooked and ran the wrong way. heard some more grunting in the distance. see a good amount of deer in my spot but I always seem to get busted. I'm about 18-20 feet up in my climber. whoever said deer don't look up is wrong because she was staring at me about 5 yards out. got next two days off and some much needed vacation time next week.

That's a LONG ways up there!!! lol IMO the doe is always the one to watch carefully during that scenario...the buck has tunnel vision but she's still very alert of her surroundings. I got lucky the other morning...when I put my book down and grabbed my bow, she saw me but only bounded off maybe 10yds. The males shifted and moved but only a few yds.

I had one last year walk the path in front of me with two yearlings. she stared a hole through me I kid you not. I usually try to stand as soon as I see something. I couldn't today because of how close she was when I saw her. had another walk behind me on the open trail an hour later. I was standing facing the thick stuff. she spooked and I barely moved, but she was right behind me at the time. hopefully I get another shot. sat today from 7-11:30

When it rains it pours. My truck died so I missed Saturday. Now, the farm owner might lease his land to some gun hunters who want exclusive rights. I told him I'd do what ever he wants me to, but if they make me take my stands down, it'll spook the area. That and the bags and bags of human hair I'll dump there if they boot me......

I find out my fate tomorrow. Scrambling for other areas to hunt just in case.

Not sure if he's the kind of guy you could bring this up to or if he'd even care but if he's considering entering into a contractual hunting lease on his property, it'd be in his interest to have a chat with his attorney and insurance agent. Doing a search online, it seems quite a few land owners in NY make a pretty penny doing this. It's also apparent that some require the hunters leasing the property to obtain their own liability coverage. He may not care to look into all that though if he's only after a few extra bucks. G'luck Mark. You're due for a break this season for sure!

I looked into leasing a 200acre lot once. Mark you remember dr weichert? his brother has a couple of good lots for lease. problem was that I came up with my money and none of the other guys I hunted with did. I think he wanted us to cover our own insurance.

Wuddn't me man.

I told the farmer that I'd only be in there until the 20th. I've got the whole property scouted and I have stands up. If the guys who lease, let me stay, I'll leave my stands up for them, and give them all the recon I've aquired on all my sits and walking the property. I can be their friend, or they can kick me out and I'll make as much noise leaving as I can. I offered to buy in, but it didn't sound like they wanted me to be a part of it, so I don't have a good feeling about it.

Chris, if you have info about a lease for next year, let me know. I, and a few guys might be interested for next year.

Mel, thanks for the well wishes.

New truck tomorrow am! Psyched!!!
