Agreed with captc07
Especially if this current board will be starting to set things up for the 2014 conference.....with a new board coming on it wouldn't be fluid ...........
Please folks, remember when voting, consider whom, and what is gonna enhance the club and make it more fun... Consider ones availability... And please go with someone who is a total reef geek... It will make the club more fun...
I second Chriskid for Pres and Collin for VP. They also have some really great ideas. And not to mention reef geeks by definition.

Well said Captc07
I like all the people being nominated as reefers they are all great people.
But personally being in business you are often left with the impending fact of the best worker may not best leader.
Before voting for anyone I want to know what each persons plans are for the upcoming year and how they plan to accomplish them. I hate to see elections be simply a popularity contest. So I hope when it's time to vote we can use this as the opportunity to get to know each of the candidates and their plans for the upcoming year, basically sell your ideas to us.
One of the things I would like worked on in detail is our clubs website, We should have a site like Boston does that is our own that we can sell advertising space on and in turn help the club put on better meeting and events.
If the Conference takes that long to plan (I am not doubting this at all) then maybe we should have a committee or committees do different segments and the BOD who's terms are shorter than the planning process do things like book the facilities and oversea the individual committees.
For those of you who don't know me, I have been in the saltwater hobby for a little over sixteen years. I started simple, long ago with snowflake, tiger moray eels, and banded sea snake in a six foot, one twenty five gallon tank. However, I gave all of them up nearly ten years ago to begin building a reef tank. I started with a fifty-five gallon with poor lighting and a few feather dusters and some soft leathers. After some research, I bought my second useless light but started growing out my leathers a little and a few LPS. More research and I went to metal halides and my first SPS. From there, I upgraded to a seventy-five gallon, to a ninety and finally to a two hundred ten gallon SPS dominate tank. We've all had our ups and downs in reef-keeping over the years and believe me, so have I. I believe that understanding why you have these ups and downs can be both a rewarding and a humbling experience in this hobby. No one should ever roll the dice when it comes to reef keeping or this club which will now bring me to my agenda"¦.
I joined CTARS in 2007 and at the time Jeff, our current treasurer, was President. We had meetings in different locations, had some terrific guest speakers, had tank of the month, had different club events (ie: trips offered, golfing prior to a club meeting) and had some killer CMAC's. I enjoyed CTARS a lot back then. There always seemed to be a diversity of what was going on. Everything always seemed well organized and thought out as well. I appreciated seeing peoples tanks every month and looked forward to getting my tank to that potential. I liked going to new places and meeting new people. In the past few years, I have missed the old days. There is no reason why we can't work towards bringing them back.
If I were to be voted in as President in order to bring back some of the organization I once remember, there would be a "˜penciled in' order of meetings for the year and events. There are a few reasons for this"¦there is nothing more frustrating than having only a week or two to see if we can actually hold/host a meeting or the topic. This will give the Public Relations Officer plenty of time to organize with us, as well as any lfs or vendors. Best of all, this gives you, the members, plenty of notice and time to get excited for an upcoming meeting. Especially if it happens to be a guest speaker!
I would like to properly bring in committee's to the club so that the club can run more smoothly. For instance: Lutz Tank Committee and Event Coordination Committee. These committee's would be appointed and would give a report/overview at each meeting.
Of course I want to bring back tank of the month. The club has been talking about this for some time and if I am elected in, this will certainly be one of the easiest things to resurrect. I would like to appoint a select group of individuals (three) that would be in charge of voting for the year after receiving the nominations from the club members. Prizes would be awarded as before so, the help of the Public Relations Officer would once again be beneficial in this area. Also, anyone willing to go shoot some pictures of the nominee's and winner's tanks if needed would be appreciated but, I am also willing to do this task anytime as well.
If any controversy shall arise that has the club in an uproar on the boards than I will call a special meeting at an available location for the members to either vote on or discuss in person rather than on the boards.
I would like to move the meetings around to different areas of the state. This year we were able to go to Norwich only once this year and that was only convenient for some of our members. We need to direct this convenience towards every member of the state.
Eventually, and this would certainly be over time, I would like to work on the bylaws of the club as well as the club webpage. These are issues that the members were upset about at the last election and were brought up at the first meeting and were never addressed this year. I'm not saying they are not important because they are and they both need an overhaul.
My involvement in and outside of this club has been more than fulfilling. I have organized non-club affiliated fragging workshops, done presentations for not only CTARS but other clubs, as well as my children's schools. This year alone we went to the Maritime Aquarium Trip behind the scenes tour that CTARS set up and Collin's first annual Old Fashioned Frag Swap that was awesome! I also attended the FFM, Ocean State Reef Aquarium Society Conference as well as the New Jersey Frag Swap.
Lastly, if elected, I would not profit by any means by selling my coral on the CTARS threads. I will instead, support a lfs and club raffles.
I am definitely in favor of the continuity of the Board of Directors. However, I feel this club is at a current standstill and that with myself, Collin and Emery and our idea's, especially to bring the old back to the new, this club will see a great step in a better direction. I sincerely believe we can get boost of enthusiasm from all members, new and experienced alike.
