Sounds like what you want is a comparative. Unlike some on here I will just say I can't give you that as I have only used Ushios. He needs to hear from people who have run the different bulbs so they can speak to the difference.
I've been thinking about this question for a few months now. I am currently running a pair of 250W 14K DE Hamiltons (came with the fixture) along with 2x54W T5 actinics. The MH are coming up for replacement in about a month and I'm considering moving to a 20K bulb. In the past, I always ran SE 400 W Radiums and I'd like to get close to that color. Looks like the Ushio 20K DE with the actinic T5s might get me there.
here is a picture of my 120 cube not much to look at yet as i am rebuilding it from scratch after sstorm sandy. anycase the lights on this tank are 150 watts superactincs and 400 watt ushio 10k bulb. the tank is very bright and it gives off a little yellow tint that i just cant stand. but as you can see this is a very good picture of the true color, the bulb has about 200 hours on it and the 03 are at about 150 hours. when i get teh 20k radium in this week i will post a picture.
hope this helps
