210 build PIC INTENSE

The bulkreef calculator said 72oz of calcium and 171oz of mag. !!! that seems like a lot.

It does seem like a lot, but that's what it takes. Think that's bad, try raising it on a 600 gallon system, I was pouring it in by the jugs. Once you get to your desired levels, you don't need as much to maintain.

yeah makes a guy wish he lived by the ocean with a direct feed in and out for constant water changes.

i keep wanting to do some changes with this. I have a ton of flatworms in here and i think the way it is setup it does more harm than good. Plus it just looks dirty. I think i will wait until the 456 is done and use most of it for seeding that tank and then put new sand and macro's back in.

Most likely that film is from your salt mix. What kind do you use? Reef crystals? IO? How are all those damsels doing? How many do you have now? Tank is looking nice now. I'm glad I took a break from your thread b/c I was getting really frustrated.

yeah, its reef crystals....and i figured its from the salt but i am curious as to what it is?
i have every damsel but they are getting big and have chased two over the overflow and are now in my sump.

wow man, tanks finally starting to look great!! nice comeback!!! I looked at this thread months ago, and it was the biggest rug of hair algea ive ever seen in my life, now its all like purple, and colorful n alive n stuff! nice job!

if what you mean is where you keep your water change supply, it is calcium carbonate, over time calcium in the salt mix reacts with calcium carbonate, or some precipitated calcium carbontate and makes a film on top of the water, and starts to encrust over everything in the mixing tank eventually. reef crystals sux for that, some synthetic salts do it more than others. I used to use rc, than switched to red sea coral pro, and the effect was cut in less than half.

so is there any affect on the water at all?

anyone know if there is any side effects to adding mag. and calcium too fast?

calcium can precipitate out if added too quickly, which is why kh and mag need to be raised with it. WIth mag the you can get too much and kill inverts but also you have to worry about what you are adding with the mag, Chloride and sulphate. You have to be careful with any level you tweek
